A vintage American Hero's Fire Department commemorative belt buckle produced by the renowned Bergamot Brass Works of Darlington, Wisconsin, and dated 1976. Cast in pewter-finished metal, the buckle features a finely detailed relief depicting an early horse-drawn steam fire engine with firefighters responding to duty before a firehouse, framed by ornate Victorian-inspired scrollwork. The upper register bears the inscription "American Hero's" and "Hero's," while a ribbon cartouche proclaims "Fire Dept." The lower panel is engraved "Los Angeles," honoring one of America's oldest and most storied municipal fire departments. The reverse is marked "1976" and stamped "Bergamot Brass Works, Darlington, Wis., Copyright USA," confirming its manufacture during the height of the American commemorative buckle collecting movement. Founded in the late 1960s, Bergamot Brass Works became one of the premier American manufacturers of collectible belt buckles, producing thousands of licensed and commemorative designs celebrating American history, occupations, transportation, wildlife, and Western heritage. Their buckles are admired for their crisp casting, substantial weight, and detailed relief work, with many examples remaining highly collectible today. An attractive and nostalgic piece of firefighting memorabilia, ideal for collectors of fire service history, vintage Americana, Los Angeles ephemera, or Bergamot Brass Works buckles.

  • Literature: Comparable examples appear in Bergamot Brass Works commemorative buckle catalogs and collector references documenting American-made belt buckles of the 1970s.
  • Circa: Dated 1976.
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition. Light surface wear, scattered oxidation and minor finish rubbing consistent with age and handling. Reverse hardware functions properly. A well-preserved example with sharp casting detail and an attractive vintage patina.
