Desirable World War II Nazi 1940 Dated Mauser Banner "Eagle/L" Police Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine and 1939 Dated Police Holster This is an excellent example of a WWII 1940 Dated Mauser Banner Police Luger pistol rig with desirable "Eagle/L" Police proof. The pistol also has the unusual/desirable "SU16" proofmark on the left side of the barrel. This proof indicates this barrel was a contract barrel made by the Simson/Ulbright Company. These were used exclusively on police contract Lugers in 1940. The top of the chamber is stamped "1940" and the large Mauser banner logo is on the front toggle. The standard "eagle/L" police proof is stamped on the right side of the receiver with the commercial "eagle/N" proofmarks stamped on the left side of the receiver and the breechblock. The full serial number "4488x" is stamped on the front of the frame with "4488" stamped on the left side of the barrel extension, but not on the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number "88" are stamped on the various small parts. The pistol has a salt blue finish, including the small parts and is fitted with checkered walnut grips. Complete with an original Type 2 Police magazine. The magazine body is unmarked and the aluminum base is marked "2/4488/x". Also comes with an outstanding late black leather police holster that is marked "A. FISCHER/BERLIN C.2/1939/police eagle" proofmark on the back. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: P08 BBL: 3 7/8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 4488x Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 99% of the original blue finish with some minor muzzle and high edge wear. The grips are also excellent with some light wear, a few minor nicks and crisp checkering. The holster is very fine with some light handling marks and nicks in the leather on the face, with tight stitching and nice clear sharp markings on the back. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
