1936 Dated Krieghoff Luftwaffe Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol This is an example of a desirable pre-war Krieghoff Luger manufactured by Heinrich Krieghoff in the latter part of 1936. The "S" Code, "36" and "1936" marked or dated Krieghoff Lugers were manufactured in the largest serial number block of all the Krieghoff Lugers, with only 2,500 total being manufactured with the full "1936" date on top of the chamber. The Krieghoff Luger was the only Luger pistol that was officially accepted by the Luftwaffe throughout WWII and have always been highly sought after as one of the more desirable Lugers due their excellent fit and finish. The top of the chamber is marked "1936" with the front toggle marked with the late production die, type C-1 markings of "H, anchor, K/KREIGHOFF/SUHL", which has the round bottom "U" in SUHL, with the left tip of the anchor touching the bottom leg of the "H". The right side of the barrel extension has the large "LWaA" 1st Stage II proofmarks, and the underside of the barrel has the bore diameter, the smaller size, full pistol serial number and the single "Eagle" firing proof. The right side of the barrel also has the single "Eagle" firing proof. The side of the breechblock and toggle assembly are correctly proofed with the small Krieghoff "Eagle" acceptance proofs along with the last two digits of the serial number. The pistol is finished in a high polish rust blue with straw colored small parts. It is currently fitted with a set of post-war orange/brown colored plastic non-factory checkered replacement grips. The backs have no markings other than the mold marks. This pistol is complete with a single nickel plated magazine with an aluminum base that is restamped with only the matching serial number and Luftwaffe proofmark. Manufacturer: Krieghoff Heinrich Gun Co Model: P.08 BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Finish: blue Grips: plain wood Serial Number: 6438 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains 95% of the original high polished blue finish with only some bright high edge wear and some thinning on the muzzle. There is a minor dent on the side plate hump. The various small parts retain 90% of the original straw color. The grips are fine with light handling marks and sharp checkering. Most markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
