Probably the rarest of all the USN Diving Manuals that feature the Mark V system is the 1924 Manual. Released only eight years after the introduction of the Mark V in the 1916 Diving Manual, it introduces the first USN Shallow Water diving program, with the Miller Dunn style 1 helmet and pump. The rest of the manual is basically the 1916 Manual. It is also a rare occasion when one of those that has survived is found. The 1924 USN Diving Manual listed here is contained as its own chapter in the Navy Department 1924 Manual of the Bureau of Construction and Repair. This is a huge post-World War I USN manual, that covers numerous topics relevant to navy operations of the period. This manual is a survivor and shows the wear of its almost 100 - year old history. The photographic pages, which are primarily the 1916 manual images, have attracted damp spots as can be seen in the photos. These may be able to be cleaned if done with care and patience. The damp is centered at the top right of the page and does not encroach on all of the images. Some of the text pages also show damp marks but not all of them. There are 108 text pages in the diving manual and the damp marks cease at page 28. The manual has been in a major diving library for over 20 years, and is only released now that the library has finally acquired one in better condition. Please check the photos, which indicate the condition of the manual and also show the contents page. A very, very, rare USN Diving Manual that is almost 100 years old.
