Rare Serial Number "1" Norwegian Vaapenfabrikk Model 1912 Semi-Automatic Pistol This is an unbelievable find for the advanced semi-automatic pistol collector. This is an extremely rare example of a Norwegian Model 1912 serial number "1" semi-automatic pistol. These were a licensed copy of the Colt M1911 pistol, only they were manufactured at the Norwegian Vaapenfabrikk arsenal/factory in Kongsberg, Norway. They were originally designated as the Colt Automatic Pistol M/1912; however, this was later changed to M/1914. These were the standard Norwegian service pistols issued during WWI and then again in WWII and later by the Nazis after the invasion of Norway in 1940. These early models are rarely found as they saw considerable use and very few were ever rebuilt. This rare pistol is correctly stamped with serial number "1" on all the various parts except the barrel which is a WWII High Standard replacement barrel. The left side of the slide is stamped with only "1917/A". The right side of the slide is marked with a Crown/D and Crown/K proof mark over "No.1". The full serial number "1" is stamped on the left side of the frame, the trigger, slide release, thumb safety, ejector, hammer, grip safety, mainspring housing, of course the slide as noted the inside of the barrel channel just in front of the locking lugs, the right side of the magazine release, the barrel bushing, recoil spring housing and recoil spring plug, and the face of the firing pin stop. As noted, it is fitted with a replacement WWII High Standard replacement barrel that is stamped "HS" and "P" respectively on the side of the barrel lugs. It is fitted with a set of standard checkered walnut grips. This pistol is complete with a replacement M1911A1 all blued magazine with a capital "A" stamped on the lip. Manufacturer: Norwegian Model: 1912 BBL: 5 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 ACP Finish: blue Grips: walnut checkered Serial Number: 1 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 70% of the original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, thinning on the front grip straps, and blue loss visible on the mainspring housing and grip safety. 40% of the original nitre blue remains on the small parts. The walnut grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering overall showing wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks. A very rare and certainly unique serial number 1 Norwegian .45 semi-automatic pistol. Serial number 1 firearms are highly desirable and a collecting field all of their own!
