Exceptional 1884 Production D.F.C Inspected U.S. Colt Single Action Cavalry Revolver with Factory Letter Colt Single Action Cavalry Model revolver manufactured in 1884 and inspected by Captain Frank Heath and Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that states it was one of 150 guns shipped to the U.S. Government on December 31, 1884. The revolver has the Colt military blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. Feathered polishing marks are visible on the barrel on either side of the front sight blade and above the ejector housing stud. The frame, loading gate and hammer are color casehardened. The frame screws and trigger have a fire blue finish. The one-piece walnut grip is oil finished. The ejector housing has the bullseye ejector rod head utilized until early 1885 and cavalry style hammer with extended, bordered knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the fourth style elongated block address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/three-line patent marking followed by the "U.S." property mark. The small "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel, bottom of the frame above the serial number, side of the chamber and on the right grip heel. A small "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel ahead of the "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. A "G" Colt inspection mark is stamped below the serial number on the trigger guard and back strap. The lower left side of the grip is stamped with the date "1884" above the Ordnance final inspection stamp which consists of the encircled script monogram "FH". The Ordnance sub-inspection stamp which consists of the script initials "DFC" in a rectangle with rounded ends is stamped on the lower right side of the grip. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "710". The full serial number, "114110", is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "4110" is stamped on the side of the cylinder and the bottom of the barrel beneath the ejector housing assembly. All of the visible serial numbers match Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 7 1/2 Inch Stock: Gauge: 45 Long Colt Finish: blue/case-hardened Grips: walnut Serial Number: 114110 Class: Antique Condition: Excellent. The revolver is all original and retains 90% plus of the original blue, and color casehardened finish. Wear is limited to some thinning of the blue finish on the back strap and inside of the grip and some turn marks and light edge wear on the cylinder. The frame, hammer and loading gate have strong case colors and show minimal wear. All of the markings on metal components are crisp. The grip remains in excellent condition with extremely sharp date, final inspection mark and sub-inspection mark. The only wear is some very minor rub-marks on the rear edges of the grip heel. The action functions perfectly. The is an exceptional example of a U.S. contract Colt Single Action Cavalry revolver and is one of the best, D.F.C inspected Colt Single Action revolvers we have offered in recent time.
