This US Morgan silver dollar is dated 1879 and was struck at the San Francisco mint, as indicated by the S mint mark located on the reverse above the denomination. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse features the left-facing profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, inscribed with LIBERTY, and surrounded by the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM and thirteen stars. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching an olive branch and arrows, partially encircled by a laurel wreath. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the motto In God we trust in Gothic script.
