Published by T. Nelson and Sons (London, Edinburgh, and New York). Vibrant green cloth cover heavily stamped with black designs and intricate gold gilt lettering on both the spine and front board. Features a detailed black-and-white frontispiece illustration alongside numerous steel engravings scattered throughout the text and contains 393 pages. The Hunter and The Trapper in North America; or, Romantic Adventures in Field and Forest is a scarce 19th-century travel and wildlife book. While your 1875 edition bears the name of English journalist W.H. Davenport Adams on the cover, he actually served as the translator and editor. The original text was written by the French travel writer Bénédict-Henry Révoil. The book recounts Révoil’s mid-19th-century travels through the unexplored American wilderness, documenting encounters with Native American tribes (including living among the Pawnees in 1848) and detailing hunting adventures involving bison, panthers, bears, and wild horses. The 1875 printing is widely considered the first UK/US standard edition format or the second printing of the true first.
