  • Provenance: N.C. Estate Inheritance
  • Dimensions: DIAMETER: 14.30 millimeters
  • Exhibited: Currently Mebane Antique Auction Gallery
  • Literature: WEIGHT: 0.75 grams, MINTAGE: 139,000, MINT: Philadelphia, EDGE: Plain Ron Guth: The 1855 Three-Cent Silver is the second year of the Type 2 sub-type, and it has the lowest mintage of any date from the 1850s, and the lowest mintage of all dates until 1863. As a result, this is one of the more valuable dates in the series, but most circulated grades can be found for a small premium over the type price, at least, up until the EF and better levels. This issue is almost always seen with clashmarks of some degree or another. The finest example certified by PCGS is a single MS66+.
