November 10, 1835-Dated, Manuscript Document Signed by 65 Individual Soldiers, Massachusetts Military Pay Order, plus the Selectmen of Town of Rowley, (Massachusetts), Very Fine.
1835 Massachusetts Military Duty Pay Order measures about 7.75" x 12.25", 2 pages (one sheet face and back), Rowley, (MA). Flattened folds, corner crease at top left, scattered ink splatter, light foxing. Directed to Harrison B. Spofford, Treasurer, this Pay Order reads, in part:
"You are hereby ordered to pay on demand out of the treasury of said town to the persons hereafter named each the sum of five dollars, they having (as by return of Certificates from the several commanding officers) been armed and equipped, and having performed military duty in their several companies, as the law requires during the last year."
A list of 65 Individual Soldiers names with their signatures follows, or the signature of someone representing them. At the conclusion, the document is signed by the Selectmen of Town of Rowley (Massachusetts).
