This auction brings together one of the finest selections of vintage high-end audio components we've had the pleasure of offering. Whether your passion is classic American tube gear, high-end solid-state, or simply owning some of the most revered names in audio history, you'll find plenty to get excited about. Headlining the sale is a superb Conrad Johnson Premier One power amplifier, one of the company's landmark designs, joined by the legendary Krell KSA-80 power amplifier and matching KSP-7B preamplifier—components that helped define the high-end audio movement of the 1980s. McIntosh enthusiasts will discover an exceptional lineup, including the iconic MC240 stereo amplifier, a pair of MC30 monoblocks, the highly sought-after C20 stereo preamplifier, MR71 FM tuner, rare 50W-2 and 20W-2 amplifiers, early McIntosh preamps, equalizers, accessories, and more. These are the components that established McIntosh as one of the world's premier names in high-fidelity audio. Adding even more excitement are two Marantz 8B stereo tube amplifiers—widely regarded as among the finest tube amplifiers ever produced and seldom offered together in the same auction. The depth of the sale is equally impressive, featuring classic equipment from Leak, Fisher, Quad, Acrosound, Dynaco, Heathkit, Sherwood, Brook, Eico, Ampex, and other respected manufacturers. You'll find an outstanding selection of tube amplifiers, preamplifiers, tuners, receivers, and hard-to-find vintage components spanning the golden age of high fidelity. The auction concludes with an excellent offering of loudspeakers, including the legendary QUAD ESL-57 electrostatics, Apogee Caliper ribbon speakers, Vandersteen Model 2s, several KLH Model 8 systems, along with quality speaker cables and accessories. Whether you're searching for a centerpiece for your listening room, restoring a classic system, or adding investment-grade equipment to your collection, this is an auction that vintage audio enthusiasts won't want to miss.

CATALOG TEXT BELOW:

1a - BIDDING! Bidding is really simple, particularly if you've bid in an online auction before, but here's a quick rundown on some features that may be unfamiliar: Each lot in the auction is scheduled to close approximately 20 seconds apart. For example, Lot 1 is scheduled to close at 7:00.00 pm central time. Lot 2 is scheduled to close at 7:00:20, Lot 3 is scheduled to close at 7:00:40, Lot 4 is scheduled to close at 7:01:00. Soft Close--- The auction software has a "soft close" feature so that if a lot is bid on in the final three minutes before that particular lot is scheduled to close, that lot extends for another three minutes. For example, say Lot 10 has one minute left before it closes and a bid is placed on it: Lot 10's time will extend to four minutes. Then if Lot 10 ticks back down to two minutes remaining and another bid is placed, then Lot 10 will extend to five minutes. As long as active bidding is occurring in that final three minute window, it will keep extending that lot's time. This does not affect any other lots in the auction, just that particular lot. This is the easiest way to emulate "live" auction bidding, and a very common practice in online auctions (not eBay). High bids and maximum bids--- Bidders can place maximum bids which remain secret; the system will only bid up to the competitive bids and show that number as the high bid. For example, if your maximum bid is $100 and the next highest bidder's maximum bid is $40, then you would be the high bidder at $41 (based on the bid increment table). If bids go past your maximum, you'll be notified by email that you've been outbid and can then bid again if you choose. If two bidders happen to have the same maximum bid, then the first bidder at that value is shown as the high bidder.

PLEASE COPY AND PASTE IT INTO YOUR BROWER TO VIEW. https://www.schulmanauction.com/vintage-electronics/auction-shipping/

1d - EQUIPMENT TESTING! When possible, we do our best to test the equipment we sell so that you will know exactly what you are bidding on. That being said, we perform basic tests such as overall power consumption, receiver sensitivity, transmitter power output, etc. Depending on what it is we’re selling, other tests might be warranted. If there is a certain type of test you’d like performed on a particular lot, just let us know and we’ll do our best to take care of you. Please note that we do not usually go through every single function on a particular piece of gear (in some cases, that would take a considerable amount of time) but rather the functions that will tell us (and you) whether or not the piece of equipment your interested in, is in basic working order. Does it transmit? Does is receive? Does that piece of test gear you’re wanting to bid on do what it is supposed to do? All this with supporting data and photos when appropriate. For more information and specifics about our test bench, please cut and paste the following link into your browser: http://www.schulmanauction.com/vintage-electronics/test-bench-equip-testing/

2 - Conrad Johnson Premier One Power Amplifier Conrad-Johnson Premier One Stereo Power Amplifier in overall very good cosmetic condition, as shown. Rated at 200 watts per channel, the Premier One was one of Conrad-Johnson's first true state-of-the-art, high-power tube amplifiers. Introduced in 1979, it quickly earned a reputation among audiophiles for its effortless dynamics, tremendous authority, and what many reviewers described as a "T-Rex" scale of sound. Equipped with twelve 6550 output tubes, this amplifier delivers the classic tube sound that enthusiasts appreciate, while also generating a fair amount of heat. The amplifier has recently been re-tubed and professionally re-biased, and it performed very well during our in-house testing. We auditioned it using our McIntosh XR5 loudspeakers, where it delivered clean, full-bodied sound with plenty of power. NOTE: This amplifier has an aftermarket modification mounted to the rear of the top tube cage. We were told that this modification was installed by Sonic Frontiers and is intended to simplify the tube bias adjustment process compared to the procedure outlined in the owner's manual (see link above). The modification consists of a rotary selector switch with detents, each corresponding to one of the output tubes. A voltmeter is connected to the attached yellow alligator clip to measure the bias voltage, and the selected tube is then adjusted accordingly. Once the tube associated with each switch position has been identified, future bias adjustments become much quicker and easier—or so we were told by the independent audio technician who recently re-biased the amplifier. The rotary switch is connected by a ribbon cable to the underside of the amplifier, where it interfaces with each individual 6550 output tube. We have also been told that this modification can be removed if a future owner wishes to return the amplifier to its original configuration. SN 5101108 SHIPPING NOTE: This amp will only be shipped via freight. Please contact the auction company for a shipping quote.
