She and Duveneck were members of the MacDowell Society, founded in 1913 to promote community amongst Cincinnati artists. They exhibited together as early as 1917. This portrait, likely of Schaeffer, was exhibited at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, a world's fair held in San Francisco in 1915 to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal and demonstrate the city's resilient comeback after a massive earthquake struck in 1906.
