She returned to St. Louis in the late 1960s. Tito was most accomplished as a portrait painter, and it was the genre that she most appreciated. She sought to capture the essence of her sitters, not to recreate their likeness as to imitate a photograph. KENNEDY WITH A PHOTOGRAPH One letter dated March 17, 1954, is a return letter to Dr. Gus Turbeville as President of Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, thanking him for his interest in "What book or books have exerted the greatest influence on me"?, to which he replied the "Life of Lincoln" by Carl Sandberg. The other letter, dated August 4, 1953. is another return letter to a request for an autographed photograph for his office to which he did send one. Both letters are signed by the future President of the United States, typed on United States Senate letterhead for Kennedy, with the committee of "Labor and Public Welfare Government Operations" upper right.
