1.  Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Capt. Wm. Babcock' and showing two men working on a sailboat that is partially inside a workmen's shed, 3 5/8"h, 'Felda China F&T Germany' is on the base. The mug has no damage and has a highly detailed decoration.  Very rare subject matter. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 40.

2.   Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'W.A. Dutchess' and shows the Caption in the wheelhouse of the 'B McG - Bell McGowan' a riverboat paddle wheeler. Two men are on the lower deck, 3 5/8"h, no base markings. The mug has no damage. Highly detailed decoration. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 37.

3.  Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'A. V. S' and showing the riverboat day cruiser 'Daniel Drew', colorful springs of flowers are on each side, 3 1/4"h, unmarked base. The mug has no damage. The Daniel Drew was a Hudson River steamship. It was built in 1860 and made regular trips between New York and Albany. In 1863 she was sold to Alfred Van Santvoord for who this mug was made. In 1863 Van Santvoord owned several other boats and started the Hudson River Dayline Company making day trips with many stops along the river. The last trip was in 1971. In 1886 while laying at Kingston Point she caught fire and was totally destroyed.  This is a very early mug, smaller in size then those that followed and with colorful sprigs of flowers, oftentimes seen on earlier mugs but not often seen on the later. Alfred Van Santvoord died in 1901. He is buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Albany, New York.

4.   Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Cole P. Royers' and shows Mr. Rogers flying a early 1900s' bi-wing airplane, 3 1/4"h, 'T & V Limoges France' is on the base. The mug has no damage. Always a desirable shaving mug.

5.    Occupational Photographic Shaving Mug, made for ‘A.R. Feider’ and showing a colored photograph of a locomotive, coal car and passenger car, 'Twentieths (barely legible) Century Limited, New York and Chicago' is on the passenger car, the number '604' in on both front of the locomotive and side of coal car. The letters 'L. S. & M. S. (Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad) are beneath the engineer’s window, 3 7/8"h, unmarked base. The mug has no damage. A very rare photograph mug! Ex. 6.  Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'W.C Dietz' who drove his motorcycle '12695 M. in 497 H.', it pictures Mr. Dietz sitting on his motorcycle, 3 3/4"h, 'Plato' in gold is on the base. A flat 3/8" by 1/4" chip is on the inside edge of the base rim, otherwise in perfect condition. Obviously a one-of-a-kind mug. This mug is pictured on page 136 in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep.

7.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Rosco A. Lambert' and showing three men pulling a fire ladder truck, a driver and helper at the back, ‘Allert Hook & Ladder Co' is on the side, 3 4/4"h, 'T & V Limoges France' is on the base. The mug has no damage. A large decoration that wraps two-thirds of the way around the mug. This mug is pictured on page 87 in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep.

8.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Salvatore Cascarella', and showing a large lunch wagon, 'Quick Lunch' is on the front, 'Pie, Coffee, Cake, Tea' is on a window, 3 3/4"h, 'Germany' is impressed on the base. The mug has no damage.  A large wonderful finely detailed decoration. A very rare occupational mug worthy of a strong bid! Ex. Bill Ham Collection.

9.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'D. Zappeffini' and showing a man working on a bottling line, 3 5/8"h, 'Fride China Germany' is on the base. The mug is perfect and has a full maroon color wrap. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 43.

10.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Otto Jaeger' and showing a mid 1920s airplane, 3 5/8"h, 'Germany' on base. The mug has no damage. According to the Fighter Pilot 'Ace' List compiled by Al Bowers and David Lednicer, Otto Jaeger flew in the Austro-Hungarian air force during World War I (1914 - 1918). He was credited with shooting down seven enemy aircraft (five were required to attain 'ace' status). He apparently came to America after the war possibly to seek work as a pilot. Ex. 11.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made of 'K. P. Bates' / 'Painter' and showing Mr. Bates on a scaffolding painting the outside of a building while unknowingly spilling a bucker of paint on a man walking below, 3 7/8"h, 'D & Co' is on the base. The mug has no damage and has an exceptionally fine detailed decoration.  A number of painter mugs exist, but not with a comical decoration like this one.

12.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Jim Bradly' and showing Mr. Bradly doing chin ups, a black band just below the rim is probably an indication that he held a black belt in karate, 'Frida China, Germany' is on the base. A tiny sliver type chip 1/4" by 1/8" in size is off the inside edge of the base.

13.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Henry Wessner' and showing a stable boy holding a horse. Two men, one possibly an owner are off to one side, 3 5/8h, unmarked base. The mug has no damage. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 110.

14.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'John M. Cowin' and showing a riverboat paddle wheeler with, 'Granite State'on the side, 3 1/2"h, 'K.T. & K. / S--V China S.B.J.' is on the base. The mug has no damage. Possibly the same 'Granite State' that sank in 1890s at the mouth of the Ohio river near Mound City, Illinois.

15.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'R. M. Plappert.' and showing the inside of a barber shop, with two barbers, one shaving s customer while the other one is cutting hair, a mug rack with a number of shaving mugs and a mirror can also be seen. The mug is 3 5/8"h and has 'Leonard Vienna Austria' on the base. The mug has no damage and has a very colorful highly detailed and sizable decoration that wraps almost halfway around the mug. Nicer than most barber shop mugs.

16.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'J. M. Greer.', and showing a highly detailed store offering various watches, clocks and glass items. One salesman is about to show a woman customer a glass item he is taking from a showcase while another salesman waits at a showcase. A floor safe and clocks of a shelf are in the background. The mug is 3 1/2"h, has 'D. & Co' on the base. The mug has no damage and has a highly detailed decoration! The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 117.

17.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Jas. McAndrew' and showing a railroad ticket agent in his ticket booth, above the booth is 'N.Y.C.& H.R. R.R.' below is 'Ticket Office', a clock, bench and door are in the background, the entire decoration is in an unusual gold frame, 3 7/8"h, unmarked base. The mug is perfect has a full mint green wrap. Mr. McAndrew’s was an agent for the New York City and Hudson River Railroad. The railroad was formed in 1869 by Cornelius "Commodore" Vanderbilt through the consolidation of the New York Central Railroad and the Hudson River Railroad and remained such until 1914.

18.    Occupational Shaving Mug, a photograph presentation mug. ‘Presented by W.W. White / Wichita, Kansas', and has a picture of an early Steam Driven Tractor, 4"h, 'G.H Fralick Barber's Supplies, Wichita, Kansas' is on the base. The mug is essentially perfect, but a tiny in-making chip off the edge of the base rim is partially covered by the gold trim. One of two known, the other was in the collection of the late Jim Carpenter. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 202.

21.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'J.R. Williams' and showing a man cutting a roof slate, another man is preparing to stack finish slates. An outbuilding, tree and numerous finished slates are shown, 3 1/2"h, 'C.A. Smith, Barber Supplies, Philadelphia' is on the base. The mug has no damage. This is a large well detailed decoration that wraps halfway around the mug. The mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 181.

22.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'John Walsh' and dated '1921', it shows a railroad steam shovel car removing dirt from the side of the tracks, 'MAR SS' is on the side of the shovel, 3 3/4"h, 'Germany' is on the base. The mug has no damage and has a full green wrap. The Marion Steam Shovel Company was founded in 1884 in Marion, Ohio. The Marion shovel was very popular and used by most railroads, it was also used in construction of the Panama Canal, Hoover Dam and the Holland Tunnel. The company was sold to Dresser Industries in 1977.  Today the only surviving example (Model 91) is on display in the town of Le Roy, New York where it worked in the local limestone quarrys.

25.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'L.A. Faunce' a 'Jeweler Engraver' and showing Mr. Faunce fixing a watch with numerous pocket watches, a grandfather’s clock and several customers in the background. A highly detailed decoration and with the owner’s name in black script lettering. Very unusual. The mug has no damage. This mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 214.

26.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'C.J. Kille' and showing a 1905 Mahoning four-seat touring car, 3 1/2"h, 'T & V Limoges France' is on the base, it has a full green wrap and no damage. in 1903 the Youngstown Carriage & Wagon Company formed the Mahoning Motor Car Company. Between 1904 and 1905 they made about 90 automobiles, it had a top speed of 40 miles per hour. Thought to be the only surviving car is currently on display at the Tyler History Center in Youngstown, Ohio. You can't own the car, but you can own a mug that shows it!

27.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Jacob U. Mantz' and showing two men shaking hands of a barrel, 'Working Men of All Countries Unite' is on the barrel, clusters of a type of grain are on both sides, 3 1/2"h, 'Iron Stone China / Warranted' is on the base. In 1848 (long before the time of this mug) Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published the Communist Manifesto, the political slogan, 'Working Men of All Countries, Unite' was one of the rallying cries. The essence of the slogan is that members of the working classes throughout the world should cooperate to defeat capitalism and achieve victory in the class conflict. This slogan also appeared on 1919 Russian bank notes. This is an American blank mug, and it has no damage.

A very large, detailed decoration and although we are offering several glass blower mugs in this auction, each with a different decoration, the subject matter is very hard to find.

32.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Thos. Jack' and showing three men working in a glass house. One is holding a blowpipe, a colorful kiln is in the background, 3 5/8"h.  A 1 1/2" glaze crack is on the base, a faint in-making glaze fissure is in the upper handle attachment, and a tiny chip is on the side of the rim above the handle. Sounds bad, but with the exception of the rim chip the other flaws were probably in the making.

34.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Geo. Krick' and showing a glassblower forming a bottle. A stand with several bottles and kiln are behind him, 3 5/8"h, 'G.B.S.Co.' and 'T & V Limoges France' are on the base. The mug is perfect and has a full blue wrap.

35.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Clinton McClellan' and showing a horse drawn milk wagon with Mr. McClellan standing alongside it, 'Office 309 to 404, Liberty Ave, Brooklyn' and 'Borden's Condensed Milk Bottles Milk & Cream' is on the side, 3 3/4"h, '2014 13' is on the base. The mug has no damage.  An exceptional highly detailed decoration. Gail Borden started the company in 1857. Its primary product was condensed milk. In 1899 the name was changed to 'Borden's Condensed Milk Company'.

36.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Joe Fieb' and showing an early highly detailed 1900s' fire truck, 3 1/2"h,'G.B.S.Co.' in gold and 'T & V Limoges France' are on the base. A shallow 1/2" by 1/4" chip is off the base and a tiny 1/8" chip is off the outer edge of the rim.

37.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'J.B. Curran' and showing a mule drawn coal cart. A miner with a whip stands on the front, the cart is on railroad tracks and probably just came out of a mine, 4 3/4"h, 'Eugene Berninghaus Climax Cincinnati, Ohio' is on the base. The mug has no damage.

38.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Geo. H. Wren' and showing the 'Grant Iron Works' building in 'Mahanoy City Penn', a highly detailed decoration showing the iron works and several passing trains. The mug has no damage. The Grant Iron Works was built in Mahanoy City by Thomas Wren of Pottsville. In 1865 his son, George H. Wren, became the manager of the Grant Iron Works. In 1867 he formed a partnership with R.R. Lee and purchased his father's interest in the business. He died October 8th, 1921.

39.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Y. Poillard' and showing 'Mr. Poillard’, (possibly a Chauffeur) driving a landau-type auto, 4"h, 'J & C Bavaria' is on the base. The mug has no damage and has a full deep blue wrap. A great automobile mug!  This mug is pictured in 'The Best of Shaving Mugs' by Keith Estep, page 15.

40.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'A.M. Harter' who with his brother were founders of the 'Harter Bros' Lumber Mfr's' in 'Coburn Pa’. 'Oak Pine & Hemlock' is on a log end, 3 1/2"h, 'V & D Austria' is on the base. The mug has no damage. The Harter Brothers, William J. and Albert M., (who this mug was made for) ran a sawmill in Coburn, Pennsylvania until moving to West Virginia in 1903 where they operated a sawmill until 1911. Albert Harter died in 1935,

41.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'Frank W. Hoffman' and showing a stack of five crossed rifles. A military backpack in the center has '8 / N.G.B.' a canteen below that has a ‘U.S.' monogram, a tent encampment, trees and mountain range are in the background. 3 7/8"h, the base is unmarked. A 1/4" outer edge of lip chip is above the letter 'H'.

42.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'T.N. Rosenfeld' who worked on the 'D & E R R ', (Delaware & Eastern Railroad), and shows a highly detailed front of a locomotive on tracks with telegraph poles on each side, 3 7/8"h, 'T & V Limoges, France' is on the base. The mug has no damage. Very different (and more attractive) from the usually seen locomotive mugs.

Gifford' and showing a man pumping water into what appears to be a milk can with the word 'Short' on the side, a horse drawn 'Pure Milk' wagon stands nearby. 3 3/4"h, unmarked base. The mug has no damage. Does the can already have milk in it? And is he pumping water to fill up the can so it will be 'Short' of milk?  He does have an obvious smirk on his face! This ones different!

52.    Occupational Shaving Mug, made for 'J. Frank 1912', and showing a trolly car with 'New York R. R. Co.' on the side, 'Lexington Ave.' is on the front and side of the roof, a driver, conductor and numerous passengers are on the trolly, buildings are in the background, 3 5/8"h, unmarked base, it has a maroon wrap and is undamaged. In 1912 travel in Manhattan was dominated by surface trolleys and horse drawn wagons with streetcars operated by the New York Railways Company being the primary transit.

53.    Occupational/Photograph Shaving Mug, made for ‘C.C. Salmon’ and showing a photograph of a young boy, 3 7/8‚”h, unmarked base. The mug has no damage A reasonable number of personalized photograph shaving mugs exist most showing a picture of the owner. There may be others, but this could be one of only a very few with a picture of a young boy. This mug may have a sad story to be told as there is a possibility that the boy in the picture died at a young age and in remembrance his father had his picture put on the mug instead of his.

57.    Occupational Shaving Mug, that shows a two-horse team pulling a 'Citizens Ice Company' wagon. A man, possibly the mugs owner, is weighing a block of ice, 3 1/2"h, 'T & V France' is on the base. A 1/4" chip is off the upper edge of the base below the decoration. A large decoration.
