5THE SCARF by ROBERT BLOCH, 1ST Ed. — VG copy of this early Bloch novel (Dial Press, 1947), in original dust jacket,

autographed by Bloch in his own inimitable way. Priced by a store at 35¢ on the first page, Bloch drew an arrow to that price, then

wrote “You were robbed!” and signed it in red ink. Book has slight spine lean; DJ has some slight nicks (RESERVE).

The only issue of this very short-lived title, which followed two issues of RED MASK DETECTIVE STORIES (RESERVE).

9 BRITISH TARZAN PAPERBACKS — Mark Goulden’s Pinnacle Books published a notable UK edition of Edgar Rice

Burroughs' Tarzan series in the 1950s, often in collaboration with W. H. Allen. Collectors recognize these vintage mass-market

paperbacks for their distinct "pulpy" cover art, many of which were illustrated by J.E. McConnell or A.W. Sperry. Note that the series

runs in a much different order than the original books. Included in this lot are TARZAN AND THE LOST EMPIRE (#1), TARZAN, LORD

OF THE JUNGLE (#2), TARZAN AT THE EARTH’S CORE (#4), TARZAN’S QUEST (#5), TARZAN AND THE LION MAN (#7), TARZAN

THE MAGNIFICENT (#14), TARZAN AND THE GOLDEN LION (#20), THE SON OF TARZAN (#21), and TARZAN THE TERRIBLE (#22).

The set is in G to VG condition (RESERVE).

6 BRITISH ERB BOOKS — in addition to publishing a UK paperback edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan during the 1950s,

Mark Goulden’s Pinnacle Books also published other works by the author. Collectors recognize these vintage mass-market

paperbacks for their distinct "pulpy" cover art, many of which were illustrated by J.E. McConnell or A.W. Sperry. Included in this lot are

A PRINCESS OF MARS (#6), CARSON OF VENUS (#9), LOST ON VENUS (#23), TANAR OF PELLUCIDAR (#29), and THE MASTER

MIND OF MARS (#38). Also included with the lot is the 7th UK printing of THUVIA, MAID OF MARS, a VG- hardcover in a G DJ,

published in 1951 by Methuen & Co. of London, England. The dust jacket uses P. J. Monahan’s cover art from the April 8, 1916 issue

of ALL-STORY WEEKLY where Burroughs’ novel was originally serialized. The set is in G to VG condition (RESERVE).

length non-fiction book on flying saucers. It popularized the concept of UFO crashes and government cover-ups. Popular Library #326

from 1951 with a 25¢ cover price and cover art by Earle K. Bergey. Condition is VG (RESERVE).

LOT OF FANTASTIC UNIVERSE + MIKE SHAYNE — 15 copies of this science fiction digest, started by former Standard

Magazines editor-in-chief, Leo Margulies, and a partner in 1953. Although not highly regarded by science fiction historians, the

magazine ran for nearly seventy issues, lasting over 7 years. During its run, it published several notable stories, including 3 Robert E.

Howard stories rewritten as Conan yarns by L. Sprague de Camp. One of these is in the set, which includes the 10/54, 11/ 54 (two

copies), 12/54, 1/55, 2/55, 6/55, 10/55, 3/56, 6/56, 9/56, 10/56, 11/56, 4/57, & 3/58 issues. Also included are two issues of MIKE

SHAYNE MYSTERY MAGAZINE (dated May 1971 and June 1972), another magazine published by Leo Margulies. It was one of the

most successful crime digests, running for 337 issues for about 30 years, from 1956 to 1985. Overall, the lot is in VG condition.

LOT OF BEYOND FANTASY FICTION & HEALTH KNOWLEDGE DIGESTS — 5 issues of BEYOND FANTASY FICTION, a

companion to GALAXY SCIENCE FICTION. It ran for 10 issues, published in 1953 - 54, and was noted for using fantasy with a rational

basis, much like UNKNOWN, the pulp edited by John Campbell. Included are the 1st issue (July 1953, with a Richard Powers cover in

VG - VG+ condition), 11/53, 1/54, 7/54, & 11/54 (#9). These four are in VG condition. Also included are 13 copies of various Health

Knowledge digests (making 18 total magazines). Included are the first two issues of the MAGAZINE OF HORROR (1963) + #s 6, 11, &-

23 (1964 - 68); three issues of STARTLING MYSTERY STORIES, including #s 10, 15, & 16 (1968 - 70); and five issues of FAMOUS

SCIENCE FICTION, including #2, 3, 7, 8, & 9 (1967 - 69). Overall, the Health Knowledge magazines are in VG- to VG condition.
