Pair of Modernist Jeff Messerschmidt 1500 Series Pipe Line Lucite Armchairs c. 1976 featuring a clear lucite tubular frame joined by polished metal connectors, and grey upholstery on leather straps. Created primarily during the 1970s and 1980s, these chairs are iconic examples of Mid-Century Modern and Space Age design, characterized by their sculptural use of clear, thick Lucite (acrylic) tubing. Pair of Jean Roger (1924 - 2015) ceramic planters in the form of a frog, rare early black glaze with large white eyes, one incised on base Jean Roger Paris, designed in 1962, these frog planters became a sensation with celebrities like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Coco Chanel decorating their homes with them. Lot: 11 - Jean Royere, attributed, Wrought Iron Plant Stand, France, c. 1950

Wrought iron plant stand with continuous bent-rod construction on tripod feet with three ring-form supports, traditionally intended for plant display. Attribution: Attributed to Jean Royere Origin: France Date: Circa 1950 Material: Wrought iron Dimensions: 30 inches H x 38 W x 7 deep. Condition: Original surface with age-appropriate patina and oxidation consistent with use. Structurally sound, repair noted at one junction point. Catalogue Note This model of wrought iron plant stands characterized by looping, continuous line construction is frequently associated with the work of Jean Royere. Comparable examples have appeared on the international market with attribution to the designer, including through leading galleries, auction houses and major online platforms. Royere’s work in iron during the late 1940s and 1950s explored a refined balance between structure and line, often reducing form to its most essential expression.

Antique Chinese Export Silver Goblet, the bowl decorated in repousse floral sprays of chrysanthemums mounted to a realistically modeled stem of intertwined bamboo stalks rooted to the base. This naturalistic motif is highly characteristic of luxury Chinese export metalwork from shops based in Shanghai, Canton, and Hong Kong. Cartouche: The bowl includes a polished circular or shield-shaped vacant cartouche intended for personalized prize or presentation engravings. Lot: 25 - 19th C Chinese Export Black Lacquer Tea Caddy with Pewter Inserts

19th-century Chinese export black lacquer tea caddy with paktong or pewter inserts. It features an octagonal form decorated with intricate gilt chinoserie landscapes, pavilions, and figures. The piece is raised on distinct carved gilt-wood paw feet and was manufactured in Canton for the Western market to store precious tea leaves. Material: Black and gold lacquer (gilt chinoiserie decoration) on a wood frame with chased decoration paktong inserts. Dimensions: 5.5 inches H x 10 W x 8 deep. A seated figure of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, holding a ruyi scepter, Qing dynasty (18th/19th century) or potentially the late Ming dynasty. It is made of gilt-lacquered wood  wear to the original gilding and lacquer. Guanyin is shown in a seated posture with Ruyi Scepter. Lot: 44 - Chinese Blue And White Porcelain Cylindrical Brush Pot Or Censer, Probably Kangxi

Kangxi period, painted in a restrained literati landscape with scholars, attendants, distant mountains, water, rockwork, trees, and pavilion architecture. The form is sober with straight cylindrical walls, a thick rounded rim, and a recessed underside raised on three short supports. The decoration wraps continuously around the body, creating the impression of a handscroll translated onto porcelain. Sparse mountain outlines, broad areas of open white ground, and concentrated passages of deep cobalt blue give the scene a distinctly poetic rhythm: empty space becomes mist, water, and distance, while the darker cobalt passages anchor the composition with rocks, trees, figures, and architectural detail. Dimensions: 5 inches H x 5.25 W.

Chinese or Japanese black and gilt lacquer fitted picnic box set, Meiji or Qing Dynasty, 19th century, composed of an openwork carrying case and fitted interior components including rectangular boxes, trays, stacked compartments, and rounded food or wine containers. Decorated throughout in gilt and red on a black lacquer ground with floral scrollwork, diaper-pattern panels, shaped reserves, and auspicious medallion decoration. The set belongs to the Chinese or Japanese lacquer tradition, combining practical fitted construction with highly decorative gilt ornament. The openwork outer case displays the fitted interior pieces, while the individual containers are lacquered with scrolling floral designs, geometric grounds, and gilt borders. Lot: 49 - Antique Chinese Polychrome Lacquer Temple Figure of Guan Yu

Chinese polychrome lacquer temple figure of Guan Yu / Guan Gong / Guandi, 19th century or earlier. The armored warrior deity is shown standing on a rectangular plinth, with red-painted face, fierce brows, applied black horsehair beard, and elaborate raised armor decoration picked out in red, green, orange, gilt, and black. Guan Yu, the historical Three Kingdoms general later deified in Chinese folk religion and Daoist worship, is one of the most recognizable Chinese protective deities. His red face and long beard are central identifiers, symbolizing loyalty, martial authority, and righteousness. This example retains strong folk-temple character, with expressive modeling, applied beard, painted armor panels, dragon-form shoulder detail, and traces of original polychrome and gilt decoration. The figure was likely originally displayed as a temple, shrine, altar, or processional figure. The hand position suggests it may once have held an attribute, probably a weapon or staff-form implement associated with martial deity imagery. Strong decorative presence with desirable age, surface wear, and ritual-folk character. Dimensions: 12 inches H x 6 W. Condition: Some loss to lacquer in places, please see photos.

Finely carved Chinese red overlay snowflake-glass snuff bottle, the ruby overlay cut in high relief against a milky white ground. The principal face shows a fish ascending through lotus and water plants. The reverse carries a quiet scholar-landscape scene with a pavilion. Dimensions: 3 inches H.

Chinese carved tri-color jadeite figural ornament depicting Liu Hai shown as a smiling immortal or reclining among a toad and leafy forms. The carving uses the natural color zones of the stone deliberately: pale celadon-white for the figure, green for the foreground creature and foliage, and honey-russet tones along the base and reverse. Lot: 83 - Rare Late Kamakura Period Mumei Tachi Katana Attr. Shikkake School (Yamato Tradition) with NBTHK Papers

This exceptional Tachi Katana, dating to the late Kamakura period (1185-1333), is a historically significant piece from the oldest sword school in Japan, the Yamato tradition, which forged blades for the renowned warrior monks of Buddhist shrines in the Nara region. Key Features: School: Attributed to the Shikkake school, one of the five major Yamato schools and directly associated with the Todai-ji temple. The founder was Shikkake Norinaga. Attribution and Ranking: Oosuriage mumei (unsigned, cut shortened) blade. Attributed as Sikkake and holds a Jyoujyo saku ranking. Craftsmanship: Jitetsu: Extremely fine and elegant, showing a mix of itame hada and mokume hada with masanagare, jinie, and chikei work, suggesting a quality closer to the Taima School. Hamon: Niedeki suguha and notare with a deep nioikuchi. Features include double hamon, uchinoke, and internal activity such as sunagashi and kinsuji work. The boshi is hakikake style. The quality of the jigane and hamon meets the standard of a Jyuyo token. Documentation and Condition: Accompanied by NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper and has been polished by a high-ranking polisher. The tang includes a gold inlay. Currently housed in a Shirasaya with a Kae saya. Lot: 87 - Pair Of Japanese Meiji Bronze Straw-Sheaf Vases Signed Yoshikiyo

A striking pair of Japanese bronze vases, signed Yoshikiyo, modeled as bundled sheaves of straw or reeds, each vessel rising from a compressed foot into a softly swelling body and narrowing neck, the entire surface worked in dense vertical striations to imitate gathered plant fibre. Decorated with small birds perched among reeds, bending grasses, rice stalks, tied cords, and rustic field implements arranged across the surface. The flared upper rims are treated like cut bundles, with individually articulated reed ends forming a textured crown, while the tied cords around the necks and bases reinforce the illusion that the bronze has been transformed into straw. The dark patina gives the pair a subdued, atmospheric presence, allowing the relief details to emerge gradually under light. These vases belong to the highly admired Japanese Meiji-period bronze tradition, where metalworkers elevated technical realism into poetic object-making. Dimensions: 12 inches H x 5 W.

Japanese Meiji lacquer kodansu cabinet, Edo or Meiji period, decorated with gold maki butterflies, cranes, pine, landscape views, Mount Fuji, and courtly figures. The cabinet opens to reveal multiple fitted drawers and compartments with rich orange-gold nashiji-style lacquer interiors, butterfly decoration, black-lacquer drawer wells, and shaped metal pulls. The front doors are decorated with figural panels, while the lower drawer shows a gilt landscape with cranes and pine. The interior drawers feature repeated butterfly motifs, with additional dragon or bird panels on the upper drawers. A Monumental Japanese Meiji Period Circa 1900, Sumida Gawa Art Pottery Vase by Ishiguro Koko. Raised Decoration of Figures in Ceremony Beneath a Slip Polychrome Decorated Shoulder with a heavy, dripping glaze in colors like green, blue, and red. Ishiguro Koko (also known by his real name, Ishida Gozo) was a prominent Japanese ceramic artist active during the late Meiji to early Taisho periods (late 19th century to early 20th century). Dimensions: 31 inches H x 18 W.

Lot: 91 - Antique Japanese Edo Period 62 Plates Samurai Suit of Armour

Exceptional and all matched Edo period (1603-1868) Daimyo honkozane 62 plates samurai armor. The 62 plates Ken-suji kabuto is in pristine condition with Japanese black lacquer and Kebiki Odoshi. (High-grade samurai lacing) Family kamon on fukigaeshi (kabuto ears). Maedate or front decoration is a fierce Oni devil with teeth. The cuirass or Dou is Hon kozane, the most expensive to make, so only the rich Daimyo could afford those. On the tip of the Kuzazuri, (lower part of the cuirass, protects hips and thighs) there is animal fur. The menpo (face protection) is in excellent condition with a very big and thick deer fur moustache. Circa 1700-1750. No black base included. Condition: Oni devil horns have been restored.

The dragons, with animated faces, sinuous bodies, crested heads, and rhythmic scale work, evoke sovereign power, celestial protection, prosperity, and dynastic authority. Lot: 96 - Vietnamese Bien Hoa Polychrome Stoneware Charger With Mandarin Procession, 20th Century

A decorative Vietnamese Bien Hoa polychrome stoneware charger, painted with a formal mandarin procession scene: a robed official riding beneath a ceremonial parasol, accompanied by attendants carrying banners and standards through leafy landscape. The rim is bordered with a rich iron-red and gilt-style scrolling band, framing the central courtly composition with strong export-decorative presence. The underside bears an impressed Bien Hoa mark, identifying the piece with the Bien Hoa ceramic tradition of southern Vietnam. Large Antique Thai Gilt Bronze Naga Buddha statue depicts Buddha protected by the multi-headed serpent Mucalinda, Sukhothai or Rattanakosin style. Cast seated in meditation on a coiled snake, his hands held in his lap in dhyana mudra, wearing an elaborately decorated dhoti, the face with a benign expression flanked by pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in tight curls around a high ushnisha surmounted by a siraspata. Both figures decorated with small embedded reflective mirrors. This representation is known as the Naga Buddha or Muchalinda Buddha, depicting a pivotal moment in Buddhist lore where the serpent king protected the Buddha from a violent storm during his meditation.  Condition: In very good condition with traces of original gilding. Made of bronze with layers of black lacquer and traces of gilding standing in samabhanga (a balanced, upright pose) depicted in the Abhaya Mudra (the gesture of reassurance and protection), with both hands raised. Distinguishing marks often include a large ushnisha (protuberance on top of the head) symbolizing spiritual development, elongated earlobes, and flared hemlines on the robes. Jeanne Mathilde Visart de Bury (Belgium-Canada, 1871 - 1950) oil on canvas after Cristofano Allori (1577 - 1621), Florence, Italy, titled Judith with the head of Holofernes, a renaissance depiction of the biblical story from the Book of Judith in the Mannerist style. Jeanne Visart de Bury was was born in Wollmatingen, Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany as the eldest daughter and child of Count Robert de Bury of the Belgian nobility and Lucy Simmonds of St. John, New Brunswick. though came to New Brunswick as a young child. She was a student at St. John Academy and Owen's Art Institute in New Brunswick, and then studied in Florence and Rome, Italy where she received a Master's of Arts in painting and design. She spent some time at a convent in Malta but ultimately returned to Canada in the late 1890's where she took up painting. This work is said to have been completed in 1912, perhaps on a trip to Florence Italy. She died in Montreal, Quebec. 19th C Montreal Hunt Club Collection of Frank F. Rolland including Leopold Galarneau (Canadian, active 1882 - 1902) oil on canvas Portrait of a Horse, Paddy. Signed mid left, titled and dated 1889. Measuring 16.25 x 20.75 inches within slim gilt frame. Paddy was owned and ridden by Frank F. Rolland of the Montreal Hunt in the late nineteenth century. The Montreal Hunt Club (Le Club de Chasse a Courre de Montreal) holds the distinction of being the oldest hunt club in continuous existence in North America. Its history is closely intertwined with the development of Montreal's social and military elite. Rolland was the grandson of the Honourable Jean Roch Rolland, lawyer, judge, member of the Executive Council, and seigneur (1785 - 1862).

A very fine German rock crystal and parcel-gilt silver crucifix, the cross inset with amethyst and ruby, with a larger ruby set at the base, Jesus below the INRI inscription, set on an oval dome shaped solid base with lion claw feet, marked on the base with the loth mark 13 for 812 grade silver, a Tremolierstrich (zigzag) quality mark and most probably a city or maker's mark, 17th century. Dimensions: 12.5 inches H x 6 W.

Lot: 177 - Umberto Giunti (1886-1970) Madonna and Child, Painted Fresco, Falsario in Calcinaccio (Siena Fresco Forger)

A fresco painting of the Madonna and Child by the renowned Italian art forger Umberto Giunti (1886-1970), who was famously known by the pseudonym Il Falsario in Calcinaccio (the Counterfeiter in Plaster). The painting depicts a classic Madonna and Child composition, the Virgin Mary in a red gown with a dark blue cloak, cradling a seated infant Jesus on her lap with landscape in the background surrounded by a plaster border within a simple wood frame. Giunti was a student of Icilio Federico Joni, another legendary Sienese forger. His moniker, Falsario in Calcinaccio, was coined by art historian Federico Zeri, who first identified his distinctive style of using real fresco fragments and antique plaster (calcinaccio) to create convincing Renaissance-style "fragments".  A note on the reverse reads Purchased in 1972 at a Newport estate sale at one of the mansions. It was said to have come from one of the mansions. It had a note attached to it that the gentleman the framed it for me had lost. It stated that it was a fresco that came from a church in Florence Italy that hast been destroyed, and was possibly painted by Sandro Botticelli. Dimensions: 18.5 H x 13.5 W x 2 inches deep.

Lot: 200 - A Large 17th C Austrian Carving Seated Figure with Paw Attr. Matthias Steinl (1644-1727)

A large, impressive Baroque-style carving attributed to the Austrian sculptor Matthias Steinl (1644-1727). The carving depicts a seated mostly nude male figure, with knife in one hand and severed paw in his upraised arm. The figure is carved in full anatomical detail. Steinl was a prominent architect and designer in Vienna, famously serving as the imperial engraver to the Habsburg court. 16th C Italian Renaissance Urbino maiolica dish, attributed to the artist Francesco Xanto Avelli. The dish is believed to be painted by Francesco Xanto Avelli da Rovigo in Urbino, Italy, around 1534. The dish depicts an allegorical scene, possibly related to a theme of unrequited love after a Raphael painting. It features several figures in a landscape, including a soldier on the left and figures on the right under a draped yellow curtain. It is an example of istoriato maiolica, a style popular in the Renaissance where ceramic pieces are decorated with complex, pictorial narratives, often based on classical mythology or literature.  The reverse is inscribed in underglaze blue: 1534 / Gia fimigaua la / morso stella - / Nel libro de & Z- / In Urbino, and paper label on reverse with a written inscription. A large patinated bronze work by the French artist Emile-Edmond Peynot (1850-1932), titled Le Marchand d'Armes (The Arms Merchant) or Marchand Tunisien (Tunisian Merchant). Created in 1883, the figure depicts a seated Arab man meticulously cleaning a flintlock pistol. It was a major commercial success for Peynot after being exhibited at the Paris Salon that same year. Signed Peynot 1883 on the base and include the title in Arabic script. Marked on back of base, E. Tasgel with Arabic script. Dimensions: 27 inches H x 13 W x 12 deep.

Pair of Italian Lombardy Louis XVI Marquetry Bedside Cabinets, One Late 18th Century and One Period Companion, in the Manner of Giuseppe Maggiolini Provenance: Castello Ferrari, Pieve del Cairo (Lomellina) This pair of finely inlaid Louis XVI bedside cabinets originates from Castello Ferrari in Pieve del Cairo, a historic Lombard estate associated with the late-18th-century aristocratic circles of the Lomellina region. One cabinet is a late 18th-century example of the Parabiago marquetry school, displaying the characteristic vocabulary of the workshop of Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738–1814): a central neoclassical urn issuing floral swags, acanthus scrolls, and engraved pen-work shading, all executed in fruitwoods with a refined boxwood fillet. This cabinet is possibly signed on the marquetry, in the urn of the middle medallion. The second cabinet, made within the same period, was produced as a contemporary companion piece—a common practice in late 18th- and early 19th-century Lombardy, where established households frequently commissioned matching pendants to complete existing furnishings. The second piece closely follows the iconography and proportions of the original, with minor differences in the crispness and rhythm of the pen-engraved detailing, consistent with another artisan copying the established pattern. Both cabinets retain their tapered legs, line-inlaid borders, and warm walnut veneers typical of the Milanese–Parabiago production.  Dimensions:  30 x 19.5 x 14 inches Provenance: From Castello Ferrari, Pieve del Cairo (Lomellina), a property historically associated with Napoleon’s 1796 passage during the Treaty of Milan negotiations. The case is dark patinated bronze adorned with highly detailed ormolu mounts, such as floral garlands, palmettes, and classical figures. Engraved stamp on the back plate of the clock movement, A Rera for Amedee Rera, a clockmaker active in Paris during the early to mid-19th century. Dimensions: 18.5 inches H x 8 W x 4.5 deep. It features a patinated bronze female figure leaning against a rectangular clock tower, which rests on a rouge royale marble base adorned with gilt bronze mounts. The bas-relief panel on the front depicts allegorical scenes representing study, more precisely, the arts or painting. Movement untested. Movement is signed HEMON A PARIS. Dimensions: 28.5H x 19W x 8.25D. Marble on base restored, no glass over dial.

A 14K yellow gold Longines chronograph pocket watch with serial number 1'598'169 featuring an open-face design with an original white enamel dial, black Arabic numerals, and blued steel dauphine hands and contains a high-grade manual wind Calibre 19.73N movement and monopusher chronograph integrated into the crown. Accompanied by a 14K watch fob with key and inscribed pocket knife, belonging to John Alexander Douglas McCurdy. Inscribed on inside, John Alexander Douglas McCurdy from his friend Mr and Mrs Alexander Graham Bell Beinn Breagh Aug 2 1907 on his 21st birthday. John Alexander Douglas (J.A.D.) McCurdy is recognized as the Father of Canadian Aviation and a national historic person. His significance to Canadian history centers on his monumental first flight, pioneering aviation advancements, establishment of military training infrastructure, and distinguished post-aviation career. Alongside Alexander Graham Bell and F.W. Casey Baldwin as part of the Aerial Experiment Association, McCurdy made major contributions to early aircraft design. Dimensions: Pocket watch weighs 93.3 grams (47 grams of 18K), fob and key measure 23.8 grams total, 14 inches L, 14K pocket watch weighs 30.8 grams.

Civil War Corps Badge of Lieutenant Col Orson E. Moulton, From the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 25th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry He had his badge engraved just after the war dated 1866. Starting with Burnside's North Carolina Expedition, the Foster's Goldsboro Campaign, Bermuda Hundred and finally Grant's Overland Campaign. The battle honours engraved on the reverse:  Roanoke, Feb 8 62 New Bern, Mar 14 62 Kinston, Dec 14 62 Whitehall, Dec 16 62 Goldsboro, Dec 17 62 Gum Swamp, May 21 63 Port Walthall, May 6 64 Arrowfield Church, May 8 64 Drewry's Bluff, May 10 64 Cold Harbor, June 3 64. Moulton was wounded and captured leading the 25t in a charge against the rebel works on June 3rd. He would be confined at Libby Prison and Camp Sorghum, SC. He was WIA and captured as a POW at Cold Harbor.  Dimensions: Badge measures 1.75 inches H x 1.5 W. Chain measures 8.5 inches L.

Lot: 327 - Tiffany and Co. Historic Presentation Gavel for George T Bell, 1909

An extraordinary Tiffany & Co. presentation gavel and fitted case presented by the New England Passenger Association to George Turnbull Bell, Passenger Traffic Manager of the Grand Trunk Railway and President of the American Association of General Passenger and Ticket Agents, at Toledo, Ohio, on September 14, 1909. Created as a symbolic celebration of transportation throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the gavel incorporates materials associated with rail, maritime, aviation, and bridge engineering. The fitted case is constructed of British Columbia fir with Mexican ebony banding and fitted with solid 18-karat gold hinges, lock, and presentation plaque. The gavel head is fashioned from oak from the Northern Navigation Company steamship Hamonic and incorporates a steel rivet from Montreal's Victoria Bridge and strands from the Niagara Suspension Bridge. The silver collar was made from silver supplied by poet and physician Dr. William Henry Drummond. Most remarkably, the handle incorporates wood supplied by Orville Wright from an aircraft involved in his 1908 Fort Myers crash, accompanied by Wright's signed letter confirming its origin. The lid bears the presentation inscription: "FROM THE NEW ENGLAND PASSENGER ASSOCIATION TO GEO. T. BELL PRESIDENT AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF GENERAL PASSENGER AND TICKET AGENTS TOLEDO, OHIO SEPT. 14 1909." Accompanied by a remarkable archive of original correspondence documenting the sourcing of the various materials, including a letter from Orville Wright. An exceptional and likely unique artifact linking the early history of rail transportation, engineering, and aviation in North America.

A striking Mid Century Teak Church Pew Designed by Roger D'Astous (Quebec, 1926-1998) for Eglise St Remi. The teak furniture was crafted by master cabinetmaker Jean Mendouse according to D'Astous's designs. Featuring clean, horizontal lines and a streamlined backrest with hymnal rack, the design reflects D'Astous' signature nordic architecture, emphasizing raw materials like warm timbers and post-and-beam construction with thick, sculpted wood for both the seat and supports, a hallmark of his robust yet elegant structural designs. Known for his organic architecture and studies under Frank Lloyd Wright, D'Astous designed several churches in the Montreal area during the 1950s and 1960s, such as Notre-Dame-du-Bel-Amour and Saint-Maurice-de-Duvernay. These benches were specifically crafted to complement the bold, geometric interiors of his sumptuous spaceship churches. Dimensions: 102 inches L x 20 deep x 33 H. Lot: 384 - La Mailloche a Beauport Quebec Studio Art Glass Egg Paperweight Signed

A large signed purple swirl hand-blown glass egg shaped paperweight from the renowned La Mailloche studio, which was originally located in Beauport, Quebec. The studio was founded in 1976 by Jean Vallieres (1947-2009), a highly respected master glassmaker in Quebec. While it began in Beauport, the workshop later moved to Place-Royale in Old Quebec City, where it became a staple for tourists and art collectors. The studio was famous for using traditional techniques to create decorative and functional objects, such as vases, pitchers, and paperweights. Following the death of Jean Vallieres in December 2009, the studio closed its doors. Set composed of a decanter, 5 glasses (4 and 1), 6 bowls, and ten plates. This pattern was part of Lalique's expanded table service offerings in the early 1930s, often produced at the Wingen-sur-Moder factory. Vittorio Zecchin (1878-1947) Soffiato two-handled glass vase, designed for M.V.M. Cappellin and Co. around 1925.The term soffiato (mouth-blown) refers to the extremely thin and delicate nature of the glass, a style Zecchin pioneered to evoke classical Renaissance forms. This specific Veronese inspired silhouette, featuring a ribbed body and tall, slender handles, became an iconic symbol for the Cappellin-Venini glassworks during the early 1920s. This is a sterling silver Corinthian column oil lamp with a distinctive cut crystal font. Engraved on base Presented to the Rev.d B.S. Radcliffe by Members of the Carlow Rowing Club, 1905. Stamped on base with cursive "HE" for Hawksworth, Eyre and Co., a crown for Sheffield, a Lion Passant for Sterling Silver and an M for 1904. Dimensions: Approximately 20 inches H x 6 x 6.

Lot: 427 - Antique Middle Eastern Safavid-period or Style Turquoise-glazed Stonepaste Jar

Antique Middle Eastern Safavid turquoise-glazed stonepaste jar, decorated in black under a transparent turquoise glaze with scrolling vegetal and hatched ornament. The jar has a rounded ovoid body, short neck, unglazed foot, and later applied metal rim mount. The surface shows deep turquoise glaze, black underglaze painting, age-related crazing, glaze variation, and old oxidized residue around the foot. The hard pale ceramic body and black-under-turquoise decoration align with Persian stonepaste / fritware traditions associated with Safavid and Kubachi-type ceramics.  Dimensions: 6.5 inches H x 5 W. Condition: Previously drilled as a lamp, since restored.

Oval Middle Eastern Qajar or Qajar-revival silver-metal box, the domed cover finely worked in repoussé and chased relief with a courtly figural gathering, including robed figures, attendants, vessels, foliage, and architectural landscape detail. The sides are decorated with a continuous engraved floral and palmette border, giving the piece a richly worked surface from lid to body. The underside bears struck marks consistent with Middle Eastern silver workshop or assay marks. Dimensions: 7 inches diameter x 2 H. Weight: 468.9 grams.

Lot: 432 - Pre-Columbian Veracruz-Type Bird Effigy Bridge-Spout Vessel

Pre-Columbian Veracruz-type bird effigy bridge-spout vessel, Mesoamerica, redware pottery with black and red slip decoration, probably Classic to Postclassic period style. The vessel is modeled as a stylized bird, possibly a turkey or crested avian form, with a sculpted head, pierced crest details, rounded lentoid body, central aperture, arched bridge handle, tubular spout, and raised pedestal foot. The surface is decorated with incised and painted geometric motifs, including radiating feather-like linework, banded body decoration, and black slip accents over a reddish earthenware ground. The vessel belongs to the broader Mesoamerican bridge-spout effigy vessel tradition, where functional pouring or aerating forms were integrated with zoomorphic imagery. Comparable Veracruz examples are associated with ritual, elite, and burial contexts, especially vessels connected with cacao or ceremonial beverage preparation. Dimensions: 5 inches H x 5 W.
