This coin features Marietta Founder General Rufus Putnam on one side, recognizing his role in establishing the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory. The opposite side has the America 250 emblem for Ohio and is specific to Washington County established in 1788. Start Westward Coin: The second commemorative challenge coin from America 250 - Washington County. This coin showcases the Start Westward Memorial on one side, a sculpture designed by Gutzon Borglum, who famously sculpted Mount Rushmore Memorial. The Start Westward Memorial honors the significance of the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. The opposite side has the America 250 emblem for Ohio and is specific to Washington County established in 1788. These coins are numbered limited edition. Numbers #2 through #10 on both sets when they are gone there will be no more. proceeds from the auction go toward America 250 - Washington County sponsored events.
