What better way to celebrate our nation's birthday than by attending a live in-person auction offering books and ephemera as tempting as this season's peaches.

Let's begin with fiction. We offer these first editions by King (1977, dj) "The Shining," by Perelman (1929, signed) "Dawn Ginsberg's Revenge," by Twain (1878,) "Punch, Brothers, Punch! and Other Sketches" and the first European edition (1876) of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," and Steinbeck's (1942, dj) "The Moon Is Down."

Interested in art? Than consider these first editions by Barnett (1992/1994, dj) "Kandinsky Watercolours Catalogue Raisonne," by Picasso (1970, cased) "Picasso 347," by Jiang Jian (1995, dj) "Scene," by Kemmerer et al. (2008, dj) "Carroll Dunham Prints: Catalogue Raisonne 1984 - 2006," and do your research on Henry Noel Humphreys (1847) "Parables of Our Lord."

History is well represented with books such as (1978) "Space Station 6," signed by Russian Astronauts Makarov, Chenkov, Kovalyonon and Grechko and Jimmy Carter's (1982 1st., signed) "Keeping Faith." Other volumes include Cocks (1883, 1st) "Diary of Richard Cocks Cape Merchant in the English Factory in Japan," by Thompson (1853) "Prison Life and Reflections or A Narrative Attempting to Aid Some Slaves to Liberty," and by Brown (1839, 1st) "Memoir of the Late Rev. Lemuel Covell Missionary to the Tuscarora Indians."

Digging into this month's list are a wealth of volumes on geology and mining. There is by Bramble (1897, 1st) "Klondike: A Manual for Goldseekers," by Bankson (1935, 1st) "The Klondike Nugget," by Simonin (1868, 1st) "Mines and Miners or Underground Life," and by Cundill (1889, 1st) "A Dictionary of Explosives," by La Motte's (1922) "Blaster's Handbook," and Van Gelder's (1927, 1st) "History of the Explosives Industry in America," And, let's not forget four volumes of (1858) Atlas de la Societe de l'Industrie.

For the social activist, we offer Sinclair's (1906, 1st) "The Jungle," Riis' (1901, 1st) "The Making of an American," and (1902, 1st) "The Battle with the Slum," by Sinclair (1915) "The Cry for Justice: An Anthology," and by North (1969, 1st) "New Masses: An Anthology of the Rebel Thirties,"

Like children's books, we have Wiggin's (1925, 1st) "Twilight Stories," by Palmer Cox  (1888, 1st) "Queer People such as Goblins, Giants, Merry Men and Monarchs and their Kweer Kapers," (1904, 1st) "The Brownies in the Philippines," (1910, 1st) "The Brownies Latest Adventures," and more including an 1884 copy of Firth's "King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table."

Then there is ephemera - a WWII Poster (1943) "Help Bring Them Back to You," an 1835 colored map "The British Islands in the West Indies," of Jamaica and other islands, a stand-up full color turn of the century display for ATH-LO-PHOROS pills and a Lucy Maud Montegomery Macdonald (author of "Anne of Green Gables") signed letter to a reader of her books. Oh, and not to forget, there is a rare copy of Conklins' "The Trail of the Gypsy" and the story of a trip across the United States in 1915 in the first motor home.
