CONNECTICUT RIVER BOOK AUCTION
will hold a LIVE and IN-PERSON BOOK AUCTION on June 12th, 2026
at the South Congregational Church located at 949 Main Street in South Glastonbury, CT 06073.

The garden is planted and providing lettuce, radishes, and peas for the table. Our efforts earlier this spring assembling this auction hopefully will satisfy your intellectual curiosity as those sweet peas satisfy our taste buds.
Let's start with fiction. We have the following 1st editions by Mitford (1854) "Atherton and Other Tales," by Willa Cather (1905) "The Troll Garden," by Griggs (1906, signed) "Norkoma," by Faulkner (1932) "Light in August," and by Hemingway (1940) "For Whom the Bells Toll." Lastly, there is "The Death of Madame," by La Fayette (1931) a limited edition printed on Japanese Imperial vellum and boxed.
For lovers of children's books, here is but a small sampling of our offerings. There is by Ivan Bilibin (1905, 1st ed.) "The "Fairytale of the Tsar Saltan," by Ester Forbes (1958, signed) "Johnny Tremain," by Palmer Cox (1888, 1st ed.) "Queer People with Paws, Claws, Wings, Stings and Many Other Without Either," by Van Dresser (1908, 1st ed. signed) "The Little Brown Hen Hears the Song of the Nightingale and the Golden Harvest," and by Maurice Sendak (1962, signed) "Pierre: A Cautionary Tale." Oh, let's not forget Tasha Tudor's (1962, signed) "Calico Books: Pumpkin Moonshine, Dorcas Porkus and Alexander the Gander," with the Japanese translation in a slipcase.
For readers of history and exploration, we have by Labaume (1814, 1st ed.) "A Circumstantial Narrative of the Campaign in Russia," by Cooley (1839, 2nd ed. ) "Sketches of the Life and Character of the Rev. Lemuel Haynes A.M," by Stephens (1843, 1st ed.) "Incidents of Travel in Yucatan, by Salazar (1887, 1st ed.) "Reforms in Cuba. Social Question. The Abolition of Slavery," and by Manning (circa 1880) "The Land of the Pharaohs: Egypt and Sinai,"
For geologists, we offer Hitchcock's (1833, 1st ed.) "Report on the Geology, Mineralogy, Botany and Zoology of Massachusetts," by Lobley (1889, 1st ed.) "Mount Vesuvius: A Descriptive, Historical and Geological Account of the Volcano and its Surroundings," by Dana (1890, 1st ed.) "Characteristics of Volcanoes with contributions of facts and principles from the Hawaiian Islands," and by Rickard (1932, 1st ed. signed) "Man and Metals: A History of Mining in Relation to the Development of Civilization," Now to get those rocks out of the ground how about a copy of Mattern's (1917, 1st ed.) "The Use of Explosives for Agricultural and Other Purposes."
This auction has nearly 30 lots of prints, posters and ephemera. From sports cards like the complete Topps Hockey Cards for 1969 - 1970 and 1970 - 1971 housed in a 3 ring binder with the checklists and the Topps Hockey Cards for 1980 also in a 3 ring binder to a full color Palmer Cox Brownie ad entitled "A Fairy Tale with a Moral, Dubuque Turbine & Roller Mill Co.." We have two WWII posters including by Harriet (1943) "Deliver Us from Evil Buy War Bonds," two Brender limited edition framed signed wildlife prints, a Vuillemin's (1860) map titled "Nouvelle Carte Illustree de L'Europe," postcards, magazines, ads and twenty-six 19th century Stereoscope cards of African Americans.
