Live Free or Die Antique Tool Auctions, the World's largest specialist auctioneers of antique tools, is a division of Martin J. Donnelly Antique Tools, based in Avoca, New York.
Our principal sales are two-day auction weekends at our Mid-West location at the Ramada Inn East in Indianapolis, Indiana, where sales are held in March and October; and, in the East, at the Holiday Inn, Northeastern Boulevard, in Nashua, New Hampshire, approximately 35 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts, where sales are conducted during April and September.
During the month of July, our Antique Tool Fair and auction of 1201 lots is held on the Richard Withington Auction Grounds in the sleepy village of Hillsboro Center, New Hampshire. Withington, now 87 years young, calls most of the sale while entertaining the crowd in his inimitable fashion. Each year a "cleanout" auction of 1201 lots is held at our headquarters complex in the Village of Avoca, New York. More than 10,000 tools from the 150+ collections we market in a year are sold in a single day by our New England Auctioneer, Paul Wilmott and our Mid-West Auctioneer, Bill Baxter of Indianapolis.
Subscribers to our auction catalogues and potential bidders are sent a searchable CD Rom disk containing photos and descriptions of all items in the upcoming auction(s). Links to our Online Absentee Bidding system allow those using the CD to bid without attending the auction.
If you would like a sample CD, please contact us at (800) 869-0695 and we will be happy to send you one for the next auction.
Finally, in response to an often-asked question, we take our name, Live Free or Die, from the State Motto of New Hampshire, where this business began. The phrase was penned by Revolutionary War General John Stark on July 31, 1809, as he implored a new generation of his Countrymen to remember those who had given all for American Liberty. May we never forget.
