The faceted grip carved of a single section of brown horn, with chiseled and profiled iron mounts decorated in baroque motifs. The long, double-edged blade with two short fullers at either side of the forte, struck with Spanish characters and marks. Second half of the 18th century.

A CAUCASIAN PRESENTATION SHASHKA SWORD

Mounted entirely in silver, elaborately engraved and nielloed overall in Kubachi style, the robust, multifullered blade with clipped tip struck at the left forte with crescent moons and a star and dated 1317 (1899.c.e.)

A CONTINENTAL SILVER-HILTED SMALLSWORD

With superbly-embellished silver hilt, decorated baroque vinework motifs on a matted ground, with original twisted silver wire gripwrap. The straight, double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section with etched panels at the forte involving a star and flowering vines. Mid-18th century.

A RARE OTTOMAN KARABELA SWORD

Ottoman Court Workshop production, with fine walrus ivory grips retained by three engraved silver bosses on either side, those on the obverse set with rectangular garnets. The heavy, elaborately-modeled guard of silver with rolled quillons, chiseled, engraved and gilded, and struck with the tugra of Sultan Ahmed III (r. 1703 -1730.) The original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with large silver mounts decorated en suite with the hilt and likewise hallmarked. The exceptionally broad, lightly-curved wootz blade with arching cloudbands chiseled at the forte and pronounced back edge. Beginning of the 18th century.

A RARE SCOTTISH DIRK

The hilt with high shoulders characteristic of the period, finely carved in Celtic interlace motifs and set with silver studs, the disk pommel mounted in silver with roped border and bead finial, the flared silver ferrule with engraved borders. The massive single-edged blade with substantial back fuller to either side and long false edge, etched with flowers and a crown surmounting a thistle, with substantial remains of bluing and gilding in the fullers. In its original black leather scabbard with four silver mounts engraved en suite with those of the hilt, the chape further engraved with a thistle. Third quarter of the 18th century.

A VIETNAMESE GUOM SWORD

With characteristic hilt terminating in a monster head pommel, the teakwood grip and scabbard mounted in embossed and engraved silver in vegetal and Buddhist motifs. The finely-forged blade possibly Chinese work, fullered and grooved along the spine, with a short back edge. Mid-19th century.

PERSIAN ARMOR BREECHES

Wrought entirely of mail composed of small steel rings, with complex arrangements of silver-inlaid steel plates applied to the waist, thighs, knees and shins. Late 18th-early 19th century.

AN IMPORTANT GEORGIAN PRESENTATION HUNTING DAGGER

The fine, straight, single-edged blade with raised back edge forged of actively-grained black and silver wootz. Inlaid at the forte in intertwining gold vines, en suite with the elaborate gold inlay of the bolsters and tang. The grip formed of a single section of dark horn entirely carved in characteristic Georgian motifs, including flowering vines, eagles, and a lion on the pommel. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large silver mounts, finely embossed and chased with birds amongst foliage, and heavy gilding to the obverse. The suspension band on the reverse of the locket struck with a Baku hallmark. Second-third quarter of the 19th century.

A FINE SAFAVID SHAMSHIR SWORD

The pommel chiseled with a polygonal cartouche containing a falcon, the guard finely wrought of black wootz and chiseled en suite with a hunting bird on either side, the tangbands with heavy gold vinework inlay and ivory grips with braided silvered wire wrap to base. The massive blade of shallow curvature, single-edged and double-fullered along the spine, and elegantly chiseled at the forte on each side with budding palmettes. With three cartouches to the right forte; the first inscribed with the name and titles of Shah Abbas of Iran, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET (r. 1588-1629) and the second with WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH, both in a very fine hand. The third encloses the shir ve khorshid or lion and sun emblem of Iran, with the name ASSAD inscribed upon the lion as well. Forged of superior Kara Taban Brilliant Black Persian wootz damascus steel in a fine and dramatic Ladder Pattern. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with chiseled suspension bands en suite with those of the hilt, and engraved brass chape. Early 17th century.

A RARE NORTH INDIAN HORSE ARMOR

Comprising a chanfron and two panels of barding which protect the horse quite completely, each covered in hundreds of steel lamellar plates with profiled edges, the pierced steel borders flanked by applied steel flower and leaf plates. Mounted on leather backed by thickly-padded fabric with green, red and gold velvet piping. The chanfron in the form of an elephant’s head studded with flower and leaf plates en suite with the barding, as well as pair of applied steel tusks. Mid-19th century.

A RARE SUIT OF SUDANESE ARMOR (HELMET ONLY SHOWN)

Very seldom encountered, the deeply-domed helmet surmounted by a spike finial, with separately-applied brow plate and adjustable nasal. The long camail terminating in three points, woven of heavy rings, with a fabric suspension loop for storage still in place at the rear. Retains its original hand-quilted lining faced with tradecloth, which protects the wearer’s chest, shoulders and back, with an oval opening for the face. The hauberk probably 17th century Persian work, composed of alternating rows of punched and riveted rings, extending to just above the ankle, and vented for wear in the saddle. With overlapping chest closure, the original leather collar intact. The sleeves half-length as is typical, with a leather talismanic case affixed to the right arm, containing a folded section of green silk heavily embroidered in gold thread; likely a fragment from the turban of a Sufi saint. With a quality kaskara broadsword, the disk pommel wrought of silver with remains of the original blue wrap intact, the grip covered in rare white crocodile hide, the heirloom European broadsword blade long and double-edged with deep central fuller. In its stamped leather scabbard with silver locket and chape en suite with the pommel, with strips of applied white crocodile hide at the suspension bands and tip.
