Excellent Russian Silver Tankard Nichols Plinke
Item Description
Spectacular Russian silver tankard with tandem hallmarks for Nichols and Plinke dated 1865. With engraved presentation inscription on lid: 'Given to Ilya Yakovlevich Shotlender from his superior (prikazchiki) at the Nevskiy (St. Petersburg) Wax Factory for his 25th anniversary (October 1841-1866)'. Body decorated with band of frolicking putti in floral enhanced attire, some with musical instruments, and handle in the form of a draped female figure; exquisite detail and textured surfaces, also well marked foot rim, base, and interior of lid. 8 1/2"H x 5 7/8"Diam. Minor dent in foot rim.
