At times it is a necessary evil for nonprofit clients to turn towards Auction Consignment Item Vendors to acquire auction items. Yes, less revenue goes to the nonprofit, but the client's fundraising auction contains more high end items as a result, and it could be argued that more revenue could be attained.

In a tight economy everyone has the right to earn a living. I'm the last one to argue this point! This being the case, I believe that good business should STILL be conducted in a reputable manner and with integrity. Lately, there are some practices occurring that just appear to be suspect. Commissions to auctioneers (the grease), broken promises and false claims made by these Auction Consignment Item Vendors have no place in the nonprofit world in my opinion.

AuctionPay is providing Auction Consignment Items to their clients. Of course, AuctionPay wants to be ALL THINGS AUCTION RELATED to their clients. Good Luck! They source their items directly from Winspire, and then they add a percentage to the price. Once again, AuctionPay is a member of AFP - whose code of ethics prohibits charging percentages, commissions, receiving kickbacks etc. My thought, is why not refer the nonprofit directly to Winspire. Could it be greed? ;)

Winspire has some great items. As an auctioneer, I looked into their latest partner agreement. Holy criminy! All the protection to them and nothing for my company. Forget about getting onto their web site and listed as a partner. Once again AuctionPay comes to mind in terms of Winspire's similar approach to fundraising auctioneers. Honestly, Winspire doesn't need us little auctioneers anyways given their relationship with AuctionPay and their former business partner the Gavel Group before they separated and became Winspire. As a matter of fact I used to refer business to one of their reps (who shall remain nameless). After sending a lot of business their way, and only receiving outdated, incomplete, unqualified, silent auction oriented only, leads what was I to do? One way streets seldom benefit two way traffic!

AUCTIONEERS HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE. These companies tend to use all of the same sources, vendors and providers. You want to fly a MIG jet, go to the Nyala Game Preserve, buy sports memorabilia, or drive a race car, etc., etc, ad nauseum, then it doesn't take much to source this stuff. TRULY! With a little effort you can build some world class offerings for your clients, or you can outsource this service. Please tell your nonprofit clients caveat emptor.

If you work with a company, as we do, then go for the relationship that best serves your nonprofit clients. Stress honesty, superior offerings, standing by their promises, terrific customer service and pricing that appeals to the nonprofit client. Remember these company's come and go (i.e. Rinascere Studios), resurrect (became Auction Registry who sources trips from Winspire) and die again. My motto, buy direct, or as close to the source as you can.

Tom could you contact me by email or phone regarding vendors you use for items? Example (winspire charging $1500 for fuel to fly a mig plane.)

Thanks,

Hi Kevin,

I will give you a call. I do not like Winspire. When it comes to their alleged Auctioneer Partners program they are all about them. Auctioneers gain very little if anything at all.
