I've been in the Charity Benefit business as an Auctioneer for 8 years now and a professional fundraiser for the Boy Scouts for 12 years before that. One of the things I have constantly struggled with is getting the non-profit to sign next years contract at the end of this years Auction or soon after.
They do not know their date, and many times they are so happy the event is over they do not even want to think about next year!

Even our loyal clients that have been using us for 6 years or more don't commit to us until 4-6 months after their Gala is over mostly because they do not form the committee, do not have the date or the site reserved until then.

Does anyone have any tips on this front? Maybe a discount off of the normal fee if they se ign a multi-year contract? Do you bring a blank contract to the event and ask them to sign it when the event is over? How do you handle not knowing the date and maybe having someone else offer you an Auction and then being double booked?

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Well, what you do is you have them sign the contract with an open date, and then have it re-occuring on the dates specified in "Date Appendicies" in the back of the contract.

Then at the end of each auction, present them with an instance closing - that is what I call just one instance in the open contract.
