Three plays, in French. Original pale yellow wrappers bound in. Georges-Michel, Michel. Peau Douce. Roman D'Amour. Editions Baudiniere, 1933. Original wrappers bound in. Both books inscribed and signed to Charles Boyer (1899-1978), the French actor who starred in many iconic movies of the thirties and forties, including Gaslight (1944) and Love Affair (1939). Both uniformly rebound by Boyer, making a fantastic pair of association copies. The Denys Amiel volume features a signature and lengthy inscription to Charles Boyer at half-title. Boyer starred in at least one of the plays in this book, Voyageur, which was also dedicated to him in print. The French inscription reads in part: I "a Charles Boyer... 'le Voyageur,' dans sequel il m'a donne non pas seulement ton immense talent, mais encore sa collaboration totale." ["To Charles Boyer... 'le Voyaeur, in which he gave to me not only his immense talent, but also his total collaboration."] Peau Douce is inscribed by author on half title: "A Charles Boyer, de mon vieil ami [my old friend], Michel Georges-Michel". Below the inscription is a wonderful, expressive line drawing of a jaunty, hatted actor with flower in mouth. This play was made into a film directed by Truffaut in 1964. Boyer did not star in Peau Douce. The author Georges-Michel (1883-1985) was very well known in France, and was additionally a painter, journalist, arts patron and supporter, working with the Ballet Russe; he organized the first exhibition of Picasso in Paris. This glowing author's tribute is from the well known French playwright Denys Amiel (1884-1977), who won the Legion d'Honneur.
