Swiss Marquetry Inlaid Music Box, 19th c.,
with a 20 inch cylinder and crank, with a maker's mark of H. Mefert, no. 2295,

    Dimensions:
  • H.- 7 1/2 in., W.- 30 3/8 in., D.- 10 3/4 in.
  • Condition:
  • The music box displays wear consistent with age and use. There is scattered scuffing and surface marks throughout the exterior of the box and there are losses of the inlay on the top cover. The wooden case has areas where the veneer is either missing or lifting, particularly around the edges. The interior components, including the comb and cylinder, show signs of age and oxidation, but they remain in fair condition. The comb is now lacking five teeth and several additional tips. The cylinder does show some wear, with several pins (metal projections) bent. Upon inspection from above, the leads appear to be intact; however, the comb was not removed to inspect the leads from below. Functionality has not been assessed. The mechanism itself appears intact, although it would benefit from professional cleaning and potentially minor adjustments to ensure proper functioning.
