SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA / NORTH CAROLINA "MELON PATCH" VARIATION APPLIQUE QUILT, hand-stitched, completed in green print and solid red and white fabrics, 12 pattern blocks with applied concentric circles over the center corners, having outline and diagonal grid quilting, machine-stitched applied binding, two-paneled plain backing. Circa 1880. 69" x 93 1/2".

  • Condition:
  • (Updated 8/28/2024) Good overall condition, top with some toning and scattered stains/spots, some light to heavy fading notably to red fabrics, a small through hole along edge near one corner with adjacent corner block having a small loss to green fabric, binding with fugitive color, an area of loss to one edge that goes into the back, a few other spots of wear and tears, backing with scattered toning, stains, and spotting.
