SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA / NORTH CAROLINA "DOUBLE IRISH CHAIN" APPLIQUE AND PIECED QUILT, hand-stitched in white, red, and green thread, completed in green print and solid red and white fabrics, 28 25-patch pattern blocks having diagonal grid quilting, alternating with 28 whole blocks with applique red corners featuring diagonal grid and scalloped quilting, all four sides with border having zig-zag quilting, applied red binding with rounded corners, three-paneled muslin backing. Circa 1880. 72" x 85".

  • Condition:
  • Good to very good overall condition, top with some toning and stains/spotting, some fading most notably to red fabrics and along center fold lines, a few small holes to border, binding with light to moderate fading, having some wear and tears mostly along one end edge, backing with some toning, stains, and spotting.
