Marine Corps Major General SMEDLEY D. BUTLER Only Marine Awarded the Brevet Medal & Two Medals of Honor!
SMEDLEY D. BUTLER (1881-1940). Marine Corps Major General and American Military Hero who fought in the Philippine-American War, the Boxer Rebellion, the Mexican Revolution, and World War I. He is the Only Marine to be Awarded the Brevet Medal as well as TWO Medals of Honor, all for separate actions!
May 28, 1930-Dated, Typed Letter Signed, "S. D. Butler", measuring 8" 10.5", 1 page, on "Marine Barracks, Quantico, VA." USMC official letterhead, Fine. Transmittal folds, staple hole at upper left and standard filing holes at top. Here, Butler writes to Lt. Colonel Seth Williams, reading in full: "Dear Seth: Am certainly most grateful to you for taking care of this furniture that Mrs. Butler has added to our already over-stock. Next time I am in Philadelphia, I will try to run down to see you and thank you personally. -- With warmest best regards, -- I am, -- Most sincerely yours, -- (Boldly Signed) S. D. Butler".
