Paul Strisik (1918-1998)

Evening Cove

1978

The oil on canvas mounted to Masonite is signed and dated by the artist lower left.

Paul Strisik maintained a permanent studio at the artist's colony town in the coastal town of Rockport, Massachusetts. This scene at low tide, with the boat at rest, could be anywhere around that area.

Per usual for Strisik's paintings, the scene evokes a moment in time. The sun is low, there is quiet, and the moment is serene.

Paul Strisik was a very prolific and talented artist who became a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and an Academician of the National Academy of Design. Among the various strengths of his paintings are the skillful portrayal of varying effects of light, atmosphere and weather - as with this picture - which Strisik rendered using a keen sense of observation and an impressionistic touch.
