Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A set of 2 hand-carved Egyptian alabastrons, so called because the form was originally carved specifically from alabaster. The slender vials are each of round-bottomed forms, with the larger able to stand upright unassisted. Alabastrons like these examples were intended to hold cosmetic materials or offerings in a funerary context. Size of larger: 0.95" W x 3.63" H (2.4 cm x 9.2 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
