Manuel Mafra (Portuguese, 1831-1905), Palissy Figural Centerpiece, 19th c.,
the floriform curved top with a horse and dragon figural support,

  • Dimensions: H.- 11 in., Dia.- 10 1/2 in.
  • Condition: The centerpiece exhibits restoration scattered throughout. One of the petals that forms the bowl has been repaired with small losses along the repaired edge. On the underside of the bowl where the repair was made there are small "bits" of brown adhesive throughout the floriform. Tiny losses to tips and edges of floriform are scattered throughout the bowl. On the figural stem, the man has a chip to his chin and is lacking the top of his right arm. There is a repair with small losses along the shawl/drapery below the right arm, and the front right leg of the Qilin has been repaired. The underside of the foot rim exhibits some losses, chips and innate firing fissures. Light surface soiling and crazing to glaze is scattered throughout. The centerpiece is structurally sound, and in otherwise good repaired estate condition. Condition is as to be expected with age, medium and use.
