Condition:
Excellent estate condition. The piece presents with a beautifully preserved, complex patina showing no signs of significant wear, loss, or oxidation. The various finishes—from the high-gloss mottled brown to the brushed gold and textured matte black—are vibrant and intact. All hand-painted polychrome details on the headdress and jewelry appear crisp and complete. Upon meticulous inspection, we note only the most minor, superficial handling marks consistent with its age and careful display. The reverse side is clean, with an integrated hanger. The original artist's label is fully adhered, showing only minor, expected wrinkling. The incised signature, date, and edition number are sharp and legible. The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity is in pristine condition.

Item Description
Weight: 6lbs

With a profound sense of grace and serene dignity, "Keepsake" emerges as a masterful expression of cultural reverence by celebrated Hopi artist Kim Seyesnem Obrzut. This is not merely a sculpture; it is a narrative cast in bronze, a silent poem to the enduring strength and spirit of the Hopi woman. The composition is a triumph of fluid, organic lines, where the outer form sweeps inward, cradling the central figure in a protective embrace. Obrzut’s signature faceless visage invites introspection, allowing the viewer to connect not with an individual, but with the universal archetype of the matriarch—the keeper of traditions, the guardian of heritage. The title, "Keepsake," imbues the piece with a deep emotional resonance, suggesting the precious, intangible memories and cultural treasures she holds within her blanketed form.

The surface itself is a landscape of texture and color. The artist masterfully employs a sophisticated range of patinas, from the warm, earthy reds and burnished golds that evoke the Arizona mesas, to the deep, stippled black that provides a powerful visual anchor. The delicate, hand-painted turquoise hues of the necklace and the intricate geometric patterns on the headdress and woven textile provide a brilliant counterpoint, demonstrating an exquisite attention to detail. Every element works in concert to create a work that is at once contemporary in its aesthetic and timeless in its message.

Artist Biography:
Kim Seyesnem Obrzut (b. 1969) is one of the most important and acclaimed Hopi sculptors of her generation. A member of the Butterfly Clan from the village of Hotevilla, Arizona, Obrzut's artistic journey is deeply rooted in her heritage. She was one of the last apprentices to the renowned Hopi artist Charles Loloma, and also studied at the Southwest Indian Art Institute. While she began in stone carving, she found her true voice in bronze, a medium she uses to translate the elegant, stylized forms of traditional Kachina carvings into enduring, modern masterpieces. Her work almost exclusively focuses on the depiction of Hopi women and children, celebrating their central role in the social and spiritual life of her people. Obrzut's influence lies in her unique ability to blend ancient symbolism with a sophisticated, contemporary design sensibility. Her sculptures are not static representations, but are imbued with a sense of movement, grace, and profound emotion, creating a powerful bridge between the rich history of the Hopi and the world of modern fine art. Her legacy is that of a storyteller in metal, preserving and elevating the narratives of her culture for a global audience, with her works held in prestigious museums and private collections worldwide.
