Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Zia Pueblo, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE; Arizona, Pee-Posh/Piipaash (Maricopa), ca. mid-20th century CE; Southeastern or Midwestern United States, Mississippian/Caddo culture, ca. 1400 to 1700 CE. A collection of four pottery vessels representing diverse Native American cultures. The smallest is a polychrome Zia pot by Irene Herrera (b. 1942), with her signature on the lower part of the body. The redware vessel is Maricopa, adorned with a black spiraling motif encircling the upper shoulder. The grayware vessel and the largest shell-tempered vessel are both ancient Mississippian. Size of largest: 11.5" Diameter x 4" H (29.2 cm x 10.2 cm); smallest Zia pot: 4.5" Diameter x 3.25" H (11.4 cm x 8.3 cm);

  • Fading to painted surface of Maricopa pot. Acoma pot is signed and intact, some discoloration to surface. Mississippian pot is repaired and restored, with loss to interior of rim and infill with new material along break lines. Largest Mississippian bowl is repaired and restored from many pieces, with infill along break lines and gaps. Chips and losses to rim. Perhaps 60% or more original material.
