Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Pleistocene, ca. 1.5 to 1.2 million years ago. A large ivory tusk fragment from the prehistoric stegodon! The tusk tapers to a rounded tip, and the white surface is covered in black dendrite patterns, usually resulting from water seeping into the material. Stegodon was believed to be an ancestor to mammoths and today's elephants, however recent studies have revised the understanding of Stegodons' evolutionary lineage, suggesting a divergence from direct ancestry with modern elephants. Size: 20.5" L x 2" W (52.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
