Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A collection of three ancient glass jars, each featuring a rounded body and a stable, concave base. The smallest jar displays a lovely yellow hue with silvery and rainbow iridescence, lending a mesmerizing visual quality to its weathered surface. The midsized jar, in a aqua hue, reveals a dimpled texture with indented circular patterns across the body. The tallest vessel is a composite piece, formed from two ancient glass jars with the neck joined to the body. Size of largest: 3" Diameter x 5" H (7.6 cm x 12.7 cm); smallest: 2" Diameter x 3.5" H (5.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private United Arab Emirates collection, old Israeli collection formed over the last 50 years

    Condition:
  • Largest is repaired using 2 different vessels for the neck and body. The break line encircles the base of the neck. Sand was added to cover break line, and mineral encrustations coat the surface. Stable hairline fissure on the rim. Midsized globular jar has light mineral deposits on the surface, and is intact. Smallest jar is intact with nice iridescence on the surface.
