Jonathan M. Singer (American, b. 1949). "Strongolydon Macrobotrys" (Jade Vine) photograph on Kozo / Yoshi Hanga paper, 2007. Signed and dated in gold pen on lower right. Numbered 1/1 in gold pen on lower left. A striking photorealist monotype of a Strongolydon Macrobotrys - commonly known as jade vine, emerald vine, or turquoise jade vine that is endemic to the Philippines. Dr. Singer created this image for his publication "Botanica Magnifica: Portraits of the Worlds Most Extraordinary Flowers and Plants" (2009). A stunning image of this unusual flowering vine that exemplifies ARTnews critic's flattering description of Singer's photographs which "in large scale and exquisite detail, emerge from the shadows in a manner evocative of Old Master paintings." Size of custom frame: 21.5" W x 29" H (54.6 cm x 73.7 cm); Size of image: 10.5" W x 13.75" H (26.7 cm x 34.9 cm)

About the Artist: Interestingly, Dr. Singer was a podiatrist in New Jersey who found his calling in photographing botanicals. He showed his photos to John Kress, botanist at the National Museum of Natural History, and as they say, the rest is history. Singer is considered the Audubon of flowers. His publication features images of specimens from the Smithsonian’s research collection, and his works have been sold by major galleries and auction houses throughout the world.
