American Late Classical Mahogany Bookcase

second quarter 19th century, the projecting cornice over an arched, recessed frieze, the pair of doors with a pair of glazed windows over a figured recessed panel, the doors with 45-degree miters at the cornices, with brass astragal and embossed brass escutcheon plates, and flanked by columnar pilasters with carved capitals, on a conforming base with ribbed melon-form legs and brass ball feet with straight ferrules.

  • Condition:
  • **In "as found" condition. There is a pieced-in repaired patch to the upper right corner of the right door, and a small area of filler to the upper left corner as well. There is a strip of molding missing to the left side of the case just below the removable cornice. Minor scuffs and dings from age and use. Retains an old crackled finish (possibly original).
