East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. 17th century CE. A steel katana sword housed in a minimalist shirasaya (wooden saya sheath), showcasing traditional craftsmanship and refined details. The habaki collar is of exceptional quality, made from 98% pure silver. The tang (nakago) is signed and translated as Tsuda Echizen no Kami Sukehiro and dated to 1662. This blade features horimono, intricate carvings or engravings traditionally added to Japanese swords, depicting a dragon in pursuit of a flaming pearl. While visually striking, the horimono is likely a later addition and not original to the blade. The carbon steel is consistent with authentic craftsmanship, ensuring this is not a modern reproduction or imitation. An exquisite piece for collectors or enthusiasts of Japanese swords. Size of blade: 25.25" L x 1.2" W (64.1 cm x 3 cm); in saya sheath: 39.5" L x 2" W (100.3 cm x 5.1 cm)
