Cal. 52 rifled. NSN. Bbl. 42 3/4" full oct. Signed in script “S + B”, w/ 5.5" weave pattern engraving around rear sight. Overall length 58 3/4". Samuel Baum is one of the 3 or 4 earliest gunsmiths reported to have worked in the upper Susquehanna school. 4 Piece brass engraved patchbox w/ 11 piercings, brass comb inlay, brass saddle plate, 5" brass toeplate w/ one piercing & 28 silver inlays. The English T. Ketland & Co. flintlock appears to be original flint w/ a single trigger. Stock is curly maple. CONDITION: very good overall, stock is sound w/ hand worn patina, no inset wood apparent, just a few minor crack repairs under lock, sideplate & forestock. Appears to be clean, solid & original throughout. Mechanically fine w/ crisp rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19590/RG). ANTIQUE. $5,000-8,000.
