First Nations / Native American, Midwestern United States / Canada, Great Lakes Region & Midwest, Chippewa / Ojibwe, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fringed hide bag in the style of a woman's handbag with double straps and a large main pocket and a front pocket. Pretty floral beadwork decorates the front, and the interior is lined with burgundy cotton cloth. Northern USA and Canadian tribes were especially influenced by French embroidery and textiles that often-featured scrolling flower motifs. The handles are cotton rope covered with multicolored strands of beads that were twisted around the surface; unfortunately, the thread on one came loose and is unraveling with losses to the beadwork. There is potential to restring these beads and perhaps restore the missing beads, as the rest of the bag is in great used condition. Size w/ tassels: 18" L x 11" W (45.7 cm x 27.9 cm)
