Consider how Central Park or any other park habitually is approached, either as a playground for city children who dominate it, or as a pleasure ground for the wealthy class.... Theresa Bernstein discovers that it has a soul, a rugged, undisciplined genius, which commanded respect from the intelligent architect who directed its paths and planted its gardens. We are not in any eighteenth century Versailles when we enter her plate dedicated to the New York park, and climb over the rugous and turbulent surfaces...." (paragraph 8).
