A hippopotamus ivory tusk okimono carving depicting Ebisu, Fukurokuju, and children with musical instruments, pulling in a net of fish, skillfully rendered with openwork holes. At the narrow tip is Ebisu, the god of fishermen, holding a bamboo staff. As one of the Seven Lucky Gods, Ebisu is unique for his fish symbolism, which originates purely from Japanese tradition. Near the center is Fukurokuju, depicted with a bald head, elongated forehead, and beard, symbolizing longevity, wisdom, and prosperity as another member of the Seven Lucky Gods. Comes with a custom wood base. Size: 11" L x 2" W (27.9 cm x 5.1 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.
