“Perhaps the most versatile and successful American popular songwriter of the 20th century,” Berlin published more than 1,500 songs, the most famous of which are the enduring classics Alexander’s Ragtime Band, God Bless America and White Christmas, (The New Grove Dictionary). His works were often performed on the radio and NBC Radio made recordings of several Berlin hits including Cavalcade of Irving Berlin Hits, 1910-1915 in 1934 and Alexander’s Ragtime Band in 1939.
