September 25, 1888-Dated, Partially-Printed Vellum Presidential Naval Appointment Commission Document Signed, "Grover Cleveland" as President of the United States, 1 page, measuring 15.75" x 21", on Vellum, Washington, DC, Choice Extremely Fine. President Cleveland Appoints the future Spanish-American War Naval Hero, Winfield Schley, as the Chief of the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting in the Navy with the rank of "Commodore". Signed at the conclusion by Cleveland in a bold dark ink his outstanding signature measuring 2-3/8" long and Cosigned by the Secretary of the Navy, David B. Harmony. Its original bold Blue Embossed Paper Seal is fully present and intact. Light typical storage or mailing folds, with one natural tiny hole at the lower vertical centerfold not affecting any text or signature. Overall, a well printed and clean attractive Vellum document.

Stephen Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837-June 24, 1908) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 22nd and 24th president of the United States from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. Cleveland is the only president in American history to serve two nonconsecutive terms in office. He won the popular vote for three presidential elections-in 1884, 1888, and 1892-and was one of two Democrats (followed by Woodrow Wilson in 1912) to be elected president during the era of Republican presidential domination, dating from 1861 to 1933.
