Goats were symbolic to Romans primarily due to their association with the god Faunus (Pan in Greek mythology), who was linked to nature, fertility, and rustic music. Additionally, goats were associated with Bacchus (Dionysus in Greek mythology), the god of wine, festivity, and ecstasy, highlighting their importance in religious and celebratory contexts. Goats also symbolized fertility and vitality, reflecting their economic and practical value in Roman society.
