Extremely Important Guillaume Seignac Oil Painting
Circa 1900 titled " Le Miroir" and boldly signed lower left G-SEIGNAC. Seignac was a French academic painter of tremendous acclaim; truly one of France's greatest. He was born in Rennes in 1870, and died in Paris in 1924. He started training at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he spent 1889 through 1895. He had many teachers, including Gabriel Ferrier, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, and Tony Robert-Fleury. In addition to his training in the academic style, much of Seignac's work displayed classical themes and especially his idealized images of stunningly beautiful women. After 1897, he regularly exhibited at the Salon (the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts) in Paris and during his lifetime his talent was widely recognized and he won numerous medals and awards for his artwork. In further testimony to that fact, in 1907, the famed Pierre Antoine Laurent, sculpted a life-size bronze bust of Seignac which is prominently displayed to this day in the Museum des Beaux-arts in Rennes. His work offered here is a true masterwork and is easily of museum quality and serious investment grade. We believe the model is Daphne 9 with a mirror). Seignac executed one other image of Daphne (see photo attached in the picture gallery) in a quite similar size, position, and setting as our offering here which sold in 2006 for $138,000.00. Seignac's works have been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices routinely ranging from $125,000.00 to 250,000.00, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 1998 his record price at auction is $250,000.00 for his "Le Secret d'Amour", sold at Heritage Auctions, Dallas in 2016. The painting and frame both are immaculately preserved in stellar condition with no paint or frame losses, chips, or other damage of any kind. The frame measures 30 3/4" tall by 27 1/4" wide and the oil on canvas painting measures 22" tall by 18 1/4" wide. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire this extremely rare and truly quite important offering. Good Luck bidding!
