Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A group of three faience amulets, each mold-formed and glazed in varying shades of turquoise blue. Two of the amulets are pierced for suspension: one represents an animal-headed deity, possibly Anubis, striding forward with arms held straight to the sides; the other depicts the god Shu in profile, kneeling with raised arms and a sun disk. The largest amulet is a mummiform figure, possibly an ushabti. Ushabti (or shabti) figures, shaped like mummified adults, were placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife, often assisting with agricultural tasks. Size of largest: 1.6" L x 0.47" W (4.1 cm x 1.2 cm)

Provenance: private London, UK collection; ex-F. Becker collection, Munich, Germany, 1980s
