Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A set of 2 mold-formed faience pendants depicting Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf who is a manifestation - or son of - the god Ptah, who is believed to be a mitigator of violent natural forces. The first figure stands nude and is covered in lustrous blue glaze while the larger figure is clothed with a pleated kilt and a large pectoral collar, all while covered in clear glaze. The taller figure still retains its original suspension loop above a dorsal pillar bearing softened hieroglyphs. Size of largest: 0.66" W x 1.44" H (1.7 cm x 3.7 cm)

  • Both pieces with abrasions, earthen deposits, and softening to finer details, with blue-glazed figure bearing chips to dorsal spine, and white figure with softening to hieroglyphs on dorsal pillar, otherwise intact and very good. Great figural forms.
