Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 672 to 332 BCE. An interesting ensemble of Ancient Egyptian artifacts: a leaded bronze figure of the god Nefertum, a copper axe head, and a stone figure of a deity, possibly Isis nursing Horus. The god Nefertum is depicted, wearing a lotus blossom on his head, representing rebirth, flanked by symbols of great female goddesses called menets. Nefertum was the son of the lion-goddess Sakhmet, and is sometimes envisioned as the son of Bastet or certain other great female lion goddesses. In himself he is associated with the opening of the lotus at dawn and is, therefore, associated with the sun and creation. Size of largest (Nefertum): 1.3" W x 4.9" H (3.3 cm x 12.4 cm)

Provenance: private Durham, North Carolina, USA collection, acquired circa 2000
